Hello Nigel,

With regards Hameldon Hill in Lancashire. I'm pretty sure you've actually marked up the wrong Mast.

It's been a few years since I was up there, but the mast that broadcasted FM Radio was at 53°45'21.49"N 2°17'29.23"W. It had a set of cross polarised antennae on the top, if you check the shadow there's a clear "mass" at the top of it (2008 photo). The mast you've picked is tall and guyed, looking like a broadcast mast, but it was for a different service.

Otherwise you're bob-on with what I remember of the area. In fact you've marked Brinscall as red, you can make it yellow. That's a small repeater with 2 log periodic yagis - one to Winter Hill (input feed) one to the village (Tx).

By the way - do you use Geograph? It's got loads of photos of masts, very useful.

Regards
Chris.

Hi great to see that you are listing all the TV ransmitters. I have lived in Kendal for over 15 years and the trans mitter you have pin pointed at 54,19,50.67"N is actualy within the stone wall just above at the folowing possition. 54,19,50.42"N 2,45,20,70"W Hope this will help to get it as accouiate as possible. Thanks Darren.

Pretty sure this is not a Transmitter [Re: nigelww]

Really interesting post, thanks.

I noticed that the structure at 53°18'52.36"N 2°24'30.49"W is probably an Electricity Pylon, as the cables can be seen heading SSE and NNW to neighbouring pylons.

Regards.

Hi Nigel,

The location of the Foxdale MF masts are some 850m due east of where the marker currently is. They are to the east of the main road, adjacent to the houses and can be seen by the two 'crosses', which the guy wires make.

Hope this helps,

Cheese

Isle of Man VOR/DME (IOM) is at 54*04'00.93"N 4*45'48.50"W. Transmits at 112.2 MHz / Channel 59. Hope this helps!

Pulpit Hill is just an alternative name for the Oban transmitter site even though it is not on Pulpit Hill. There are no other transmitter sites around it - there was a WWII RAF site on Pulpiy Hill but presume you don't mean that.

The Largs transmitter is on the school, just North of the location you have marked (across the road).

I went to the house across the road from the Foxdale MF masts, again, this TT week and can assure the community that they are still some 850m to the east of the Google placemark. They were resplendent in a fetching red and white livery and shone like a shaft of [red and white] gold, in the non-existent sun. As for the field to the west, there stood a lonely, blue, Google placemark, all on its own and standing in cow manure.
