Undoubtedly, many of us use Google Earth for appreciating beauty of rainforests (and planning forest trips, during which we "take nothing, but photos; leave nothing but footprints..."). As for myself, I do it regularly... Many mistakes I see in the GE maps... It is not GE team fault, however... Rainforests are being destroyed faster than GE-developers can update satellite images. Here, for example:
8°50'10.10"S 115° 7'44.20"E was beautiful piece of last indigenous forest. In this southernmost part of Bali are so many activities now... Hotels and villas (for tourists), shops etc., are being built everywhere. Well, to be exact: almost all forest here was cut off long ago - for cattle grazing, firewood, traditional house building etc. Tiny particles that remained untouched until recently, are now being destroyed for the sake of mentioned hotels, supermarkets etc. Many Jawanese and other businessmen are cutting down last indigenous trees in southern Bali nowadays... it is hard to believe, but it is true: instead of choosing empty areas for their projects, they prefer to build everything exactly where the last beautiful, shadow and oxygen - providing trees remain! 
looks like these people lost all sence of realism... The Global Climate Change Conference was conducted in Bali just recently, but only result I saw: many posters: "Plant trees! Save our planet!"... After foreign delegates went back to their respective countries, locals continued to cut off last trees... Indonesian menthality is a very special thing, as I can conclude after spending here almost 2 years.

Yes, I'm very happy if can be of some use here on forum. Planet's problems went way too far to just observe and discuss all this destruction - without doing anything. We ourselves - every day - keep destroying our world. Even these very people who pretend to be defenders of a planet, are in fact keep destroying the last. They seldom do it consciously however. There is very little awareness of the connection between hundreds of little acts that we all perform in our daily life and these global big troubles that result - as sum of all our acts. (By the way, the increase of water level for a couple cm can lead to frequent Earthquakes in many places - due to dis-balance of a planet water-earth masses... Where will be then their pompous huge houses and other self-advertising buildings?).
Alas, despite all efforts and all warnings of sincere well-wishers, majority continue to accept life as something funny. While I am personally not against healthy humor and happiness, I must say that there is too little responsibility in actions of people nowadays.
Responding global problems, I personally changed my life to a really sound extent (www.geocities.com/healingnature_alex/about_us.html). May be I am imperfect planet's healer yet, but - at least - now am sure I do not hurt the world anymore.
What I can provide for those who read this forum is inspiration - by example of my own life. But only those who practice what I teach, can have connection with me. I will protect such people, no matter what is their past.

Yes! One of best solutions is just go there. Excellent! This is what I too do regularly. Only that lasts, what is used. If we use forests only in form of furnitures, or only enjoy them on photos etc., then we sure to end up with furniture and photos only.
Otherwise, (e.g. if we love forests) we must:
- go overnights to this Paradise, to this Garden of Eden,
- spend there as much time as we can.
We're bound to end up with heavens then.
Just let us always be sure: as we go forests, we leave behind nothing but footprints, and we take back nothing but good memories/photos.
In addition, if - while in forests - we eat pure food only; we don't smoke/drink alcohol etc., then we also automatically attain purer health, as well as more clean, more calm, more sharp and - as result - more happy mind!  Isn't happiness all we need? When one is happy, all around him/her are happy too! Always be happy. HELP EVER, HURT NEVER! LOVE ALL, SERVE ALL! - As my Teacher always says.

Finally back to the forum. Some scientific background - for those interested in more professional, longer lasting reforestation:

It's a fresh paper.. Just finished. Something will possibly be changed later, so it's a good idea to check it out once again - after a month or so.
By the way, you know - so many places on Earth look like forests, but aren't forests at all. One instance, as I said above: high speed of destruction... Some areas were cleared off trees just few months ago, so these deserted places aren't shown - simply because the Google team cannot update all images as fast as greedy folks destroy the Earth.
There is also another "trick" about forest images... I thought I see good tropical forests in some places until I actually went there (in field) myself and discovered that these are in fact huge plantations of commercial trees and brushwoods instead of forests. Expensive experience! Some of my "adventurous trips" thus became a mere waste of time... (Well, at least I warn you now).
For example, rubber tree plantations in Indonesia. They can look very similar to a rainforest (from space). Coffee, cacao, and other plantations in tropics are often made under several remaining tree canopy. As result, from space it is impossible to understand what is seen below... You plan a trip, thinking you gonna meet orangutans, gibbons, hornbills, orchids, rafflesia, forest peoples, and all other inhabitants of a typical Paradise etc., but - instead - meet kilometers of boring plantations, where of course almost nobody can live, except for "modern people", who's basic activities are working/eating/TV-watching.
