Hello all
I've been wanting to ask this question since I posted this.
Within ten minutes (twenty at the most) this post had over 500 views, and there was 246 people in the current events forum!
This, in a forum that normally (averagely) has fifteen people viewing (that's being generous!)
I thought it was just some kind of error/glitch in the system (as you can see, I'm not very techy).
Anyway, yesterday (overnight) bugemenot4 posted this in CE (I never noticed how many people were viewing), and in the morning there was over 500 views, with the rest of the posts having roughly the same views as before.
I can understand if someone clicks on their post all the time, it wouldn't take too long before they get to 500, but I don't do that !
246 in Current Events?
Isn't that strange?
A mystery to me
Ps Farceur, I have not been on the beer again!

We don't always need a glass or two of "inspiration" when making post's but it does help i'm sure. Some people get off on self grandiosity by bumping their posts artificially or giving themselves 5 globe's. .........You can only feel sorry for them.
And here is 1000 globe's from me.

Hello Groovy -
After seeing that bugmenot4's post is about one of the biggest fires in California right now, it's possible his "rapid-fire" 500 views were legitimate. Out here in the wild west, a lot of us are tracking the fires every day across the various media, because at any time we could be directly affected. Goleta is in southern CA, near Santa Barbara, which has a denser population than the far north, where most of the wildfires are. Thus, any fire down there will affect lots more people. Also, the Sta. Barbara area is quite wealthy (though Goleta is a Univ. of Calif. town full of starving students ) and has had a pretty catastrophic history with fires burning down a lot of expensive homes in the hills and hundreds of square miles of wild land. In fact, there is an Air Tanker Station in Goleta.
Calif Dept of Forestry (CDF) tanker, Goleta. (Grumman S-2T) Goleta Air and Space Museum. This photo and many others are from airport acitvity during the huge Cachuma Fire in 2004.
I can imagine a lot of nervous people down there in front of their computers, checking on fire news before they go to bed. I know I would!
Diane
P.S. I'm expecting 1000 globes from Farceur for my next post!

Diane, I wasn't implying that bugmenot4 had done that! I know it's an extremely serious disaster for the region, and has been for years, but now it seems worse than ever see an update soon
My real question (ok, maybe I didn't put it quite right, see above!)
was after the Iceland earthquake post, there was 246 people viewing current events and it got over 500 views in a few minutes!
I've never (in my short time here on earth ) seen so many people viewing a forum at once, not even on earth browsing which normally has around the hundred mark.
But it remains a mystery

Me too! I finally checked out the user's profile - just for the heck of it, not because I thought this might give a clue - and there it all was! Glad to know I'm not entirely dumb! Groovy, I know you weren't making light of the fires, silly. Now I see what you meant... yes, that many viewers is astounding. I wonder if there was some sort of school project going on somewhere in the world... I guess we'll never know. Also, thanks for the nice update here!
