The 92 Ammo Depo at Witbank is mentioned in the following post as the temporary storage facility for the Nukes - http://cns.miis.edu/research/safrica/chron.htm

I'm glad it was moved before I got there - pity about the underground water though!

Nepara Base
17 46' 09.80'' S 18 27'08.07''E

The outline of the base can still be seen on google earth. That place was a smelly crotch of a place - after patrolling in that area I concluded we should pack up and go home - Nepara and SWAPO deserved each other!

Is anyone able to locate the water towers - Alpha Tower was next to the cutline and had a platoon guarding it. I think it was Bravo that was a pile of rubble after it was destroyed.

Believe I have Alpha; It is marked as Oshikango - just to the east of the road at the border is a grey roundish object -possibly still sandbags or something on top, as the shape is distorted - in a white patch - most of our old places in Ovamboland seem to have such a patch where the sandwalls around the spaces were removed. I had some BRUSH guys there in '88, and it is about where I remember the tower to have been.

Hi BluPlanet

Thank you for the tremendous work!

Your marker for the Okongo Base is slightly out. The base sits at the following spot. It sits adjacent, on the western side, of the large square seen on the satellite pic. That used to be a large tarred area where the planes and gunships could unload and refuel. The old runway can still be seen just north of the base.

Awesome post.

I have created a place mark for 10 Artillery Brigade (note: I'm not sure if the brigade is still called 10 artillery but the location / base is still there). Your notes include 2 of the regiments at the brigade .
4 Field Artillery - Potchefstroom RSA.
14 Field Artillery - Potchefstroom RSA.

The location of the brigade is:

26°38/22.85"S, 27°02'46.54"E

Spiff2 - you can make use of Sentinel Projects to host all your stuff (they are listed under geocities.com); alternately - there is a large group of ex servicemen on Facebook; just paste this link in to get there:
http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2695668014
its called "South African Defence Force SADF- (National Service & Permanent Force). You need to be on Facebook for this one to work!
