A Historical Walking Tour of Downtown Tucson. This historical walk, designed as a loop, begins and ends at the intersection of Church and Washington Streets, the north-east corner of Tucson’s historic presidio. The complete walk (about 2 1/2 miles in length) takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours, but it can, of course, be done in segments, beginning and ending wherever you like.
More than 20 restaurants are within a few blocks of the walk, providing plenty of opportunities for lunch or a break. Most of the sites on the tour are marked with historical plaques that provide additional information. Enjoy this walk through the heart of our city, which has expanded out from the adobe fort that was its beginning.
Just follow the turquoise striped path to visit each NUMBERED site. Sites designated with LETTERS are not directly on the tour, but are interesting locations that can be viewed from the tour route or are close by.

Thank you! To all visitors: Please feel free to rank this link, post any comments, or offer any highlights of your own excursions along Tucson's Downtown Presidio Trail for others. I also would recommend viewing the above link in the more highly interactive GoogleEarth format, as opposed to GoogleMaps. Yes, you may have to download GoogleEarth. But have fun with it. GoogleEarth is a must have for expanding one's base of knowledge. Thank you and enjoy! Christian

Marjorie Cunningham and Gayle Hartmann received Historic Preservation Certificates for their roles in creating “The Presidio Trail: A Historical Walking Tour of Downtown Tucson. “The Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission is pleased to award this Historic Preservation Certificate to Marjorie Cunningham and Gayle Hartmann in recognition of their innovative ideas and leadership in bringing the concept of the Turquoise (Presidio) Trail to fruition as a project of the Tucson Presidio Trust for Historic Preservation. Key sites in Tucson’s past are now linked together throughout the downtown area by a turquoise stripe on the sidewalk, and brochures were designed and distributed to enhance the experience of those who walk the trail. As a result, Tucson’s heritage is now more accessible than ever.” http://www.tucsonpresidiotrust.org/about.html
