babbacombe cliff railway

in operation since 1926, the cliff railway connects babbacombe downs with the lower oddicombe beach. the 240 feet drop requires a strong engine and four cables that together holds up to 80 tons. in 1928, april 1st., the lessee of oddicombe beach presented a silver framed ticket (A000) to former mayor alderman john taylor. the whereabouts of this ticket is not known up to this date.

at the end of the day a bell is sounded to alert passengers for the last ride. the bell supposedly belonged to a shipwrecked scandinavian ship called talca. below a picture of the railway car in it's original colours, after the refurbishing and maintenance service in 2005.
