Hi!
I am from China, living in the city of Xian, the big city beside Xianyang. I know exactly what the "pyramids" are.
XI'an's old name is Chang'an, which was the capital of China 1000+years ago, when China was at its peak. Chang'an in 1st century AD was ranked in the top two metropoitians of the world together with Rome.
Those "pyramids" in fact are the tombs of the emperors of Han and Tang(dynasties of China). In ancient China, emperors preferred to build up very huge tombs for themselves. These tombs were usually built up by stacking up soil, and are pyramid-shaped. Usually, besides the main tomb for the emperor, there were attched tombs around it. These attached ones are owned by the princes and princesses, or even those officials who had contributed a lot to the emperor.
According to statistics, there are 27 emperor's tombs and 256 attached ones in this area. If you get the chance to drive in that area, you can see a series of "pyramids", big or small, scattering on ther plain. Pretty spectacular!
Hope you can be satisfied with my explanation.

So its about 2 years ago since the topic was started, in 2007 this area was scanned with a better resolution, so its pretty easy to see.
Arat are still searching for the great white one ? Anything new ?
Greetings Mo

Try this for a list of the tombs. I have just spent two years living in Xian. Previous posts have missed all the tombs in the north suburb of the city (now called the Economic & Technological Development Zone). Almost every time that there is construction, you hear of stories of tombs being found....
