Google Earth Community: Historical Atlas of South India

The Historical Atlas of South India is a project that was undertaken, with the financial support from the Ford Foundation and the French Institute of Pondicherry ( www.ifpindia.org ).

The project, which is the first of its kind in India, aims at presenting the entire range of the human history of South India from pre-historic times to c. 1600 CE, in a digital format through a combination of maps, photographs, illustrations and texts.

It was led during the last three years jointly by a team of historians, archaeologists, and Geographic Information Systems specialists drawn from the Tamil University of Thanjavur, Mahatma Gandhi University of Kottayam, Mangalore University, Hyderabad University, and the French Institute of Pondicherry.

The result presented to you on this page, appears as a Google Earth file (not visible in Google Maps).
