This is an informal announcement of our recommended icons for highlighting placemarks, network links, and offering Google Earth for download.
For Placemarks, you can see what we've done here on the GEC. Use this icon ( http://www.google.com/earth/images/google_earth_link.gif ):
You can link directly to our hosted image, and for now that's recommended in case we tweak it.
For network links ( http://www.google.com/earth/images/google_earth_feed.gif ):
And, if you want to offer a quick link to the Google Earth (free) download ( http://www.google.com/earth/images/download_earth.gif ):
Have this icon click through to: http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html so that people understand that they're downloading from Google and also what the system requirements are.
Feedback is appreciated.
Made first link clickable.

Cool. There are some layout issues when providing network links and placemarks in the same area. It would be nice if there were either two circle-shaped icons or two boxes.

I think you need to post this announcement in a place where more web site owners are likely to see it. Maybe the News Forum and/or the FAQ forum.

Nice icons. Good way to get Google Earth out to users with a consistent message.

I second that, it took me 10 minutes to find this post again even though I knew about it.

Very cute - buy why is there a Swiss flag? A little tweak and it could be a Danish flag

Just to brain-storm a bit, here is an idea, not too original, maybe a bit large...

a little smaller
-------------------- --------------------
With no known exceptions, the cost of internal trust, efficiency and loyalty is external distrust. The "us against them" is not an optional feature, if there were some way to preserve the loyalties and the tremendous benefits of internal trust without paying the cost of the ferocious xenophobia, then that would be just what we want to do. But we don't know how to do that.

Yes, very good idea. I would support the idea to place this thread more on top level, maybe also to include it in the tutorials.
