This is the Japanese battleship Yamato and appears in a number of books. Note the distinctive mast aft of the stack.

The ship you are calling the Midway, is the USS Constellation CV-64. I was stationed on this ship. You can plainly see the Sea Sparrow launchers, the Midway did not have Sea Sparrows. Also, The USS Midway was made into a museum located in San Diego. Go to www.midway.org Also, The USS Constellation is being prep'd for sinking off the coast of Washington state as a reef. Visit www.usscontstellation.org for more info. Please change the link in Google Earth to ref. the Connie.
Thanks,
Matt

Here's a arial photo of the USS Constellation...you can see that the outline shape in the photo matches the carrier in the middle.

The problem with this whole thread is that it is one of the oldest threads on this forum and many placemarks are outdated. Note that Esterett's post you replied to is more than 4 years old! The imagery was different back than and probably had Midway at this location. In my opinion the thread should be moved to the archive section.

Matt, I also served aboard the Connie, 1964-67 V-2 division Aft-Cats. I went to the decommissioning ceremony in San Diego a few years back and I understand they are having a reunion in October this year in Bremerton. Very sad to hear they are going to sink the Connie. She was a great ship and deserves better than to be sent to the bottom of the sea Thanks, Bill.

Hate to tell you this, that's the USS Constellation CV- 64. Went up there a few months back to pay my respects. Midway is in San Diego as a floating museum. Pier is at the foot of Broadway. Had dinner next to her last year.

The carrier in the midlle marked as the USS Midway (CV-41) is in fact the USS Constellation (CV-64)
Somebody needs to change this in Google Earth....the number '64' is very easily seen....
