CORONADO, Calif. - Forty-three Sailors from USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and Commander, Carrier Strike Group Seven (CCSG 7) were advanced to the rank of chief petty officer (CPO) Sept. 21 during a pinning ceremony in the ship’s hangar bay.

The carrier in the middle, if you look closely at the bow of the flight deck, has the number 64 on it. It has been painted over but is still visible. I was assigned to this ship from 1973-75 while we cruised the coast of Viet Nam and were homeported in San Diego. This ship is the USS Constellation, CV 64. It is my understandng that it was decommissioned in 2005 and slated to be be sunk offshore somewhere as an artificial reef. It may also be noted that the 'Connie' was the sister ship to the USS Kitty Hawk, CV63 and was the last conventionally (fuel oil) powered ship before the USS Enterprise, CV65, which was the first nuclear powered ship commissioned.

All three carriers at Bremerton are decommissioned. The only active carrier in the area is the Lincoln at Everett.

Correction: It is not an "US naval base", it is a Spanish Naval Base commanded by a Spanish vice-admiral used by the Spanish fleet which also is being jointly used by the US sixth fleet.

I just caught your mail as I visited Google Earth and checked out Bremerton. The carrier in the middle is the USS Independence CVA-62. I was stationed on her from 1961 to 1966. She is diesel and we have gone all nuke. The Kennedy will be decommissioned next year when the Bush comes out. I saw duty in the Cuban Crisis and we went to Nam in 1965. Pure fyi guys, not trying to be smart. Take care. Ed

The three Carriers there, from west to east, are USS Independence (CV-62), USS Constellation (CV-64), and USS Ranger (CV-61).

Is it my imagination or is the USS Midway missing from the goodle earth image?
I know where it is but it is nowhere to be seen when I look in Google Earth.
Starting to think I am losing my mind.
