The attached Placemark includes many Lighthouses that are around the shores of New Zealand..
Many of the Lighthouses are no longer operational but have either been left in their original location or have been moved elsewhere.. Where possible as much info has been included in the placemark or links to Websites about the Lighthouse. There is also a lot of History involved here, Hence placing this in the History Forum.
Unfortunately there are only a couple of locations where the Lighthouse is in a high res area.. But most have hosted photos attached. For this reason I have set the Viewing height at 26000meters
I trust these are of use to somebody.. Even if it is used as a tour of New Zealand.
To start off I have Disabled all the Placemarks from “Auto loading”
Note... Due to a Data Error in GE I cannot include the Chatham Islands in this folder. I shall upload those tomorrow at some stage.
More Placemarks added and other have locations corrected - Updated 30-07-2006
Chatham Island Light added in Separate Placemark
Further updated with a few more Links and a few placemarks repositioned due to higher Res. 7th June 2007
Updated 16th Sept 2007 Refer This Post about corrections

Hi Norm, your collection of lighthouses makes an even more interesting tour of New Zealand now that there are more high resolution satellite photos of the country.
I've written a story about your collection at the Google Earth Blog.

HI Norm,
You might want to add that the Kaori Rock Lighhouse is one of the few (or only) lighthouse in new zealand that is on a lean. Apparently, due to the weather at the time of construction.
Cheers

Hey Norm,
Just thought you might like to know that the Pouto Lighthouse mark you have placed is the position of the current active navigation light, not the no-longer-active kauri lighthouse in the picture and description. The kauri light (the oldest still standing in NZ I believe) is further down the beach at 36deg 23'26.30" S; 174 deg 07' 23.96E. It's in a high res area so you can make out the hexagonal shape.

On the 7th of June I uploaded an Update with a few corrections.. One of those corrections was the Pouto Lighthouse.. If you download the Placemark from the top post in this thread you will see that Alteration
But the Light at 36°21'45.84"S 174°10'52.80"E is there a light there at all? I had it listed as the Kaipara North Head Light.
If you find any other errors in the Updated placemark please let me know.
Many thanks.

Hi
great work on the photos and infomation on the lighthouses. Two corrections for Wellington however, Somes and Pencarrow lights (as well as the others in the harbour) are owned and operated by the Greater Wellington Regional Council, not Maritime NZ. Our website is www.gw.govt.nz/harbours it has a small bit of information about the lights and other information about the harbour and shipping.
cheers
Grant
