Here are a couple of pictures of the Árbol de la Noche Triste, where the Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortes stoped to "cry" or lament a defeat in the Island of México-Tenochtitlan. The tree suffered a fire last century. http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7867/1432/1024/IMG_4362.jpg

While there are stories about the signing of a treaty with Native Americans beneath this tree, it is thought that the stories were a ploy to preserve a wonderful old tree. Without making it a historical landmark, it surely would have been cleared away long ago.
The previous post about the Treaty Oak is currently appearing in the wrong location. It is shown as being south of I-95, but it's actually North of I-95, and just East of main street. (I attempted to contact the original poster, but his mailbox is full.)

An interesting Post. The location of 450 years tree at Adyar Chennai, India is wrongly given. It is atleast 20 km away. The right place is http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=571036

I think the location of Tane Mahuta is wrong... I walked there with a 3 year old and a 5 year old and it was a lot closer to the carpark NNE of the placemark.

I think its right: actually, it's just 147yds/137m away from the LINZ-location (see http://www.linz.govt.nz/apps/placenames/index.html), and the placemark marks something grey with things on it that look like branches, just like a giant tree that is taller than all the other trees around.
On the internet, I couldn't find a local map of Waipoua forest's hiking trails to create an overlay. Maybe you have one or know where to find?
-------------------- If you have information that is not in the description of my posted placemark, please let me know so that I can update it.
I've searched all forums for this topic but I didn't find anything. Please contact me if I've overseen something and posted a duplicate placemark.

This is a picture of the mulberry tree which is situated in the grounds of Wakefield Prison. It was the source of the nursery rhyme "Here we go round the mulberry bush"

I would just like to mention that the boabab tree also grows in Australia the pods from it were washed up onshore and the tree now grows right across the top of the Australian continent.. When Australia was first settled the police would use the boabab to put any prisoner they were transporting from one town to another over night inside the trunk as many of these tree's are hollow
