Here's an impressive boat near Los Angeles. I have no idea what her name might be. Don't have her number either.

Might take a bit of detective work...the Carnival Cruisers have a web site with a calendar of which ship is in port, but there is no data for 2002 when I guess the image was taken, (Feb 2002?) Maybe the top deck design would have clues...your ship has a white stack without wings, unlike the small images of the ship son the web site....

LA imagery has been updated but the Keyhole Coverage page has not. Know that the patch in the quilt that includes Edison Field in Anahiem was taken a few days before the last weekend in Jan. 2003. Cruise ship image should be in a similar time frame, give or take a week maybe...

The new NYC update shows three ships docked near Intrepid Museum. The place looks a bit like this:
I'm figuring October 13, 2002. Any ideas on what ships?

This is Labadee, Hispaniola - the Royal Caribbean private beach. This appears to be a Voyager family ship because of its shape and size but it's hard to tell in this low-res image. I was on a Voyager of the Seas trip in March 2003 that was supposed to stop there, but the weather did not cooperate, so we continued on to Jamaica.

A couple of big ships in Tampa Bay. (Seems they are always docked...like to capture one sailing!)
In the center of the eta is the American Victory cruise ship, and the Florida Aquarium.

Never been here, looks cool.

If this image is from January, then this would be a cruise to Mexico from LA. SInce she is obviously not one of the Carnival Cruise Line ships (no stack wings), she is likely a Royal Carribean ship, Legend of the Seas, the only other line sailing from LA in January of 2003.

Here's a "cruise ship", not so big, and not going anywhere anytime soon. It is, however, the only one of its type in the US.

Great find, JediBoy. The NS Savannah completely slipped my mind since High School. I wrote a paper on its launching and significance. At that time, I thought that all ships would be nuclear by 1978!
NS Savannah was built at NY Ship in Camden,New Jersey, just across the Delaware from Philadelphia.

Thanks Word Puzzle. Although it's rusting, the Savannah is still a magnificent-looking vessel. Looks like a huge yacht when you fly over it (sitting next to a floating nuclear power plant).
Here's a good link showing how the Savannah fit into Pres. Eisenhower's Atoms for Peace plan.

Alas, "Atoms for Peace" shall finally rest in peace: From today's paper:

Reserve ship to be decommissioned NS Savannah of "Atoms for Peace" campaign may become a museum By DAVE SCHLECK 247-7430
November 22 2004, 1:59 PM EST
FORT EUSTIS -- Work will begin early next year to remove the nuclear reactor from a James River Reserve Fleet ship hailed as the first nuclear vessel built for a commercial purpose.
Over the weekend, Congress approved $2 million for the first phase of decommission work on the NS Savannah -- NS stands for "Nuclear Ship." Launched in 1959, the Savannah doubled as a cargo ship and diplomatic vessel during its time at sea, visiting 20 states and 22 foreign countries.
Joe Seelinger, the ship's nuclear engineer in 1964, helped lead a media tour of the Savannah this morning and recalled visiting cities like Oslo and Copenhagen.
"When we'd get into port, they'd have tall ships sailing around us," Seelinger said. "There were lines of people that seemed a mile long, waiting to go on the ship. They really did a good job promoting us."
President Dwight D. Eisenhower championed the ship as part of the "Atoms for Peace" campaign to show that nuclear power had the potential to be peaceful and productive.
The ship's nuclear reactor was shut down in 1975, when the government removed all nuclear fuel, cooling water and other contaminated materials. But the reactor remains in the ship. The first phase of the decommissioning work will involve assessing what's left on the ship and developing a plan to remove it.
The Maritime Administration wants to spend about $25 million over five years to fully decommission the ship.
Seelinger, who retired from the administration about a year ago, said he is working with several people interested in preserving the ship as a museum. Copyright © 2004, Daily Press
Still a beautiful ship, and a nice concept. Back to it's place of birth, JimBull?

It seems there is great interest in finding ships. Cruise ships are fairly easy to spot, but has anyone found "identifiable" cargo ships? Here is mv "ARCTIC" at her out-of-season lay-up berth in Montreal. She's the world's finest icebreaking bulkcarrier trading to Northern Quebec and the Canadian high Arctic.

Thanks Jumble. I work in the industry but having a hard time finding any of our own ships! Most ports visited either photo'd out of season (Great lakes) or no high-def photos elsewhere (that I can find yet!)

Theyre, I am a ship enthusiast and have the same trouble. I subscribe to Ships Monthly out of UK, and enjoy it to the extreme. It's filled with photos and locations, but always wrong time, wrong place, lo-res, re: Keyhole.
I keep looking, and hope you will too!
BTW, here's an interesting little thread.

Alas, I can no longer say that the NS Savannah is "magnificent". Here's a photo appearing in the newspaper today, Dec. 1, 2004.

On sea trials maybe? According to the layer date, this would be the Carnival Legend just before it was delivered to carnival cruise lines.
EDIT new image ship gone.

The top one is a Holland America "S" Class Ship. So she could be the Statendam, Maasdam, Ryndam, or Veendam.
My guess is Veendam.
The bottom and larger one is one of the Celebrity Millenium class ships. So it could be the Millenium, Infinity, Summit, or Constellation.
My guess is Summit, she is usually doing Alaskan cruises.

There are zero NCL ships docking in Port Everglades. That is a Princess Ship, if you look close you can see the Princess logo on the smokestack. That is a Sun Class, so it is either the Sun Princess, Dawn Princess, or Sea Princess. Don't go by the Princess website, Coral and Island are NOT sisters to the Sun Class. It's a shame when they don't even know their own ships.
The Sea has never been to Port Everglades so you have a 50/50 chance and my money is on Dawn Princess. 856feet long 106feet across the beam and passenger capacity of 1,950 (those are from memory so I could be wrong).
Dawn Princess Fun Fact: Typically females get the honor of comissioning a new cruise ship, Princess made an exception to the rule to let Fabio do the honors. Fabio was onboard when the ship made her maiden departure from Port Everglades, he waved at us as we went by and women on the back deck fainted. It was a moment to remember (hah).
