Welcome to the Global Village!
      #26 - 12/10/02 02:45 PM

The placemarks in this area will lead you on an interesting tour of our Earth that was impossible before Keyhole. In each case, the posting has an attached Keyhole Placemark that will take you to the location described in word and picture.

The best place for first-time visitors to start is the Advice for New Users. This is an easy to follow quick-start guide to both the Keyhole program and the Keyhole Community BBS. This is highly recommended reading for everyone.

Places on the earth that you may know of but may not have visited are highlighted, including the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland , Michael Jackson's Neverland ranch in California, the Forum and Trevi Fountain in Rome, Tokyo's Parasitological Museum in Meguro, the home of the Beverly Hillbillies, London's Millenium Dome, and the original McDonald's restaurant, along with hundreds of others, such as a guide to Silicon Valley, a collection of paired Placemarks and Travel Photos, and details of 150+ locations in China's capitol, Beijing.

Some recent "big" placemarks include the Chicago Architecture Tour, and the details of 2004 Olympic venues. Check them out!

Hopefully seeing these places is as exciting for you as it has been for me. Please note that most of the descriptions have details and often ground-level photos. (Since there hundreds of places marked here, you may need to change your BBS preferences to show older links and not just the most recent. Click on the page numbers at the bottom to see other pages.)

If you have been to any of these places, or have information about them, please leave a post with more information for the next virtual tourist. Also, you can use the "rate this page" feature to let future explorers know which posts are most interesting to you.

Be seeing you,
Seer

I'm from Czech Republic (Central Europe). ...so excuse my easy English (and mistakes . I was never in US, so I'm really happy, that I found this site. All my life long, i wanted to visit San Francisco LA and New York. Yesterday, I was in San Francisco, today I will make an excursion to New York. ...and I know, that it will be interesting for me. But what about americans, who wants to make fast sight-seeing in Europe? Try to find my hometown -Zlin, CZ, Europe-, and You will found, that I'm from "Sherwood" , and the rest of europeans too. It's because America is about ten years ahead of the rest of the world. We have to hurry... ...and catch You! Then it will be one huge village.
Good bye and many greets to all Americans!

I have had no trouble navigating around Google Earth, including making placemarks, using layers, etc. But I am completely stymied by how to use Information Icons. I see them, but when I either right OR left click on them, nothing happens. I am not taken to the BBS posting.

What am I doing wrong? I read the following, and I think I am following the directions, but like I said, nothing happens.

Each of the information icons in the bottom image is a placemark taken from a Keyhole Community posting. Right clicking on one of these icons--for example, the Tokyo Waterpark BBS icon--offers several options, most notably a snippet from the post itself and a hyperlink to the BBS post. Clicking on the link causes the associated Keyhole Community page to be opened. Neat!

Thanks in advance.........

I must say, I've only jumped back into the net these past two months and this website is by far the best on earth (ha ha corny huh)

I have to take my hat off to whoever thought of this Web Site. I sit here at my computer and travel the world dropping in where ever the fancy takes me, ruddy marvelous !!!

But I have come to the conclusion that my computer needs upgrading, I am suffering the same problem as Savage99. I can see the information icons, but when I click on them to go to the BBS, no joy I just end up in the Google Earth folder. I have read a goodly few tips and hints, and seem to be doing the right thing, but again frustration. As I have said I will stick some more memory in and see if that makes a difference, at present I have 512mb.

Again thanks for the program.
