Google Earth off-world integration?
      #30762 - 06/09/05 05:31 AM

Hello,

I came to Kehole as a means to help me viusally render part of an idea I've been working on for a learning simulation. I enjoyed everything else about and the application and the community especially, although I haven't been as active as I would like.

I use Google Earth along side (the best-I've seen) solar simulation application called 'Celestia' (which is Opensource). Like, Google Earth, it is awe inspiring! Nothing like taking spin around the cosmos or go back or forward in time, to put the life in perspective :)
Its free for download from www.shatters.net/celestia/
I'm sure many in this forum and community generally might like this and I was wondering if a forum could created which provides an area to discuss the integration of Google Earth with the Solar System and the Universe simultions?

I've written the R&D labs the following and was wondering if anyone here is also interested in this work?

As a simulation learning consultant, the ideas I've developed are related
to (how Google could further capitalized on)
GIS->maps->wayfinding->sonification of spacial domain of data->serious
game learning and mobility.

...<snip>
The intersection of Personal (e.g. Virgin
Galactica) and and Computer Simulated -Space travel(Celestia) games
(especially mobile) offer potentially huge markets to Google. Here are two related
links.

"Downloading the sky -Astronomers and computer scientists are building
the world's best telescope—and it's all online"

How the value of this data will be accessed and used in entertainment and
education has little thinking within the industry?

My status with what is available here already:
I have applied the beautiful moon overlay texture, but haven't revisited the Mars issue I was having, and can't remember exactly where I left it, but haven't yet experienced Mars inside of the Keyhole/Google Earth application.

Blue Sky:
I would love to interconnect Celetia and Google Earth and be able to work between the two environments and as Celetia is Opensource this might be possible?

Hi spacetraveler! I already wrote about Celestia in this thread.
And at the moment the Google-Team has enough to do with the earth itself (and Mars surely, too) and with the 3D-Buildings, i think.
At a later date we will get the Moon to it. And somewhere along the way after some years the whole solar system will accrue.
