NOTE: This file now contains approximately 6225 placemarks.
The attached placemark .kmz is the result of a long-term project I have been engaged in to geo-locate reports of encounters with bigfoot / sasquatch creatures. The reports come primarily from bigfoot resource organization web sites. This is my initial test effort to share this information via Google Earth. I welcome input by more experienced Google Earth users who might want to offer suggestions to improve the organization and display.
The reports were originally mapped with another software product and I am in the middle of the process of converting the data to .kml format, so this file will be growing as I migrate my remaining data.
Please Note: Users of this information should not assume that locations are accurate. Do not assume that a location is precise enough to apply to a particular property. The location coordinates are approximate and the margin of error will depend on the degree of precision included in the source report. Hyperlinks to the source reports are included. While some locations are quite precise, generally I believe that the margin of error is on the order of one mile. If the likely error is greater I have included an estimate. e.g., ~2mi, ~5mi, etc.
Users of this information should respect all property rights.
I welcome discussion of the maps and how I am presenting them here. Debate or discussion regarding the existence of and/or search for these creatures would be better held in other forums, such as: Bigfoot Forums.
[Edit 2006-03-05 - Icons' shape and color now differentiate report type and source.]
[Edit 2006-03-22 - Tweaked icon sizes, worked around icon bitmap addressing bug in Google Earth to correct icon display errors.]
[Edit 2006-03-26 - Further icon modification for better visual clarity. Reduced label font scale to minimize screen clutter. Added descriptive text and resource URL]
[Edit 2006-08-16 - Corrections may be reported via private mail here. Please include the state and nearest community or the URL of the associated report.]
[Edit 2006-11-18] - Strengthened language regarding approximate nature of locations and need to respect property rights.]
[Edit 2007-01-27 - Further reduced icon and label scales to ease map clutter.]
[Edit 2007-03-18 - Included valid TimeStamp tags to allow Timeline viewing with Google Earth 4. To view all placemarks it is necessary to move the Timeline sliders. Changed icons to Google Earth 4 types.] Note that GE version 4.3 hides the timeline slider by default, unless it is moused over.
[Edit 2007-08-04] - Added reports from the WCSRO. (Western Canada)]
[Edit 2007-12-09 - Added reports from OregonBigfoot.com]
[Edit 2008-01-15 - Added reports from Winnipeg River Sasquatch Association (Manitoba). Further reduced font scale to 0.6 to diminish map clutter.]
[Edit 2008-02-26 - Completed reports from BigfootEncounters.com, now includes CA, OR, and WA,]
[Edit 2008-02-27 - Added reports from Ontario Sasquatch Research]
[Edit 2008-05-14 - Revised links for older Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy reports. The TBRC totally redesigned their web site earlier this year which resulted in breaking the map links for all reports mapped from the original web site. Those URLs have now been revised to link to archived web pages stored by The Wayback Machine.
[Edit - Now Includes all of my data as of last edit date.]

Hi, Mangani, welcome to GE.
This is a monumental piece of work - congratulations on an outstanding first post.
I'd only make one suggestion, from a user-friendliness point of view, and that would be to make another group of sub-folders under your main folder to contain your placemarks, so that users can gradually bring in groups of placemarks. It doesn't much matter whether you choose to make these subdivisions by State, or by Decade, or whatever.
As it stands, people with less-competent machines might find a problem with so many placemarks on screen at once, and this might make life a little easier for them, while people with high-performance graphics could choose to enable them all at once.
And perhaps you might a warning regarding the number of placemarks in your covering post.
Once again, thanks for an interesting and innovative post. Got be be worth a few stars of anyone's money!
Cheers
Frank

Thanks Frank. I appreciate your feedback and understand the issue you raise. And since your post I have further increased the number of placemarks!
However, I did break the data out into sub folders by source and by type of report. It sounds like you are suggesting that even that may not be sufficient.
Of course, I also currently have all of the subfolders selected. I suppose I could deselect them for start up, but I was concerned that a novice who loaded the file might be confused if nothing showed up on the screen. Maybe some sort of compromise would be best.

Hi again Mangani,
I probably didn't look closely enough at your overall structure first time round - it's really just what I was proposing. Let's leave it and see how it goes.
Cheers
Frank.

Since my initial post I have made some fairly significant changes to improve the "eye friendliness" of the display and have also increased the amount of data.

I use to hear tales about this beast in the Ocala, National Forest. I also had been a Lifeguard at Alexander Springs, FL for 2 years. My experience in the trails at Alexander Springs nearly lead me to believe. Through out the forest along the trails the woods are thick and heavily covered in an underbrush palm. You can learn about that kind of wooded environment here.

I can state without a doubt that the location you have for the 1975 Etna siting at a used car lot is way off location on Google Earth. The spot the marker comes up at is the now closed Blarney Stone Restaurant, which was very much a going concern in 1975. We moved to Etna in 1973, and had been visiting my Grandmother up the road in Shaler for 4.5 years prior to that, via bus that went by this site. I do not remember a used car lot on the main street of Etna anywhere near that end of town (former "West End" Grant Avenue section), nor anywhere on the main street the Bus ran on anywhere in Etna...
Do you have the actual street address that the siting occurred at?

Thank you for your interest in correcting the location of this report. The only location information I have for any of the reports can be found in the source web link. (There is almost never a street address,) I do the best I can to locate the site of the report from the info provided by the organization which posted it on the web but, as I have already stated here, if the information is not specific, there can be a significant margin of error, usually of one mile or more. So if you can better identify the probable location for this report from the information provided by the source web site I will be very happy to revise the location.
It would also be helpful if you could specify which state the sighting you are referring to is in, as there are at least 10 "Etnas" in the United States and I have no easy way to find the report you are referring to.
