My sincere apologies if this was answered elsewhere but I am very curious as to why the imagery for upstate New York is so blurry. A good test is zoom to zip code 13450. Or the Baseball Hall of Fame in nearby Cooperstown. The images are really low grade.
Yet I can get a much better and more recent view of the 'super-secret' NRO listening post in Alice Springs than of this obscure location in New York State.
I know the county [Otsego] has slightly higher resolution images on its own web but even they are old. Is this due to lack of population, interest?
Many thanks in advance for any light you can shed.
Stephen
p.s. I just plugged Google Earth in one of my blogs--as I figure it, more users will mean a brighter future for this amazing endeavor.

The Barrle-Nassau (Belgium/Netherlands) enclave borders are missing. It would be interesting to see them.

The decisions to obtain and display higher resolution images af particular areas are made by Google. They would obviously be made for technical and business reasons, and maybe others (such as visitor traffic). Their criteria, mathods, and plans are unknown.

I have a long-term background project doing the world's exclaves and enclaves.
My earlier border outlines for Baarle-Hertog and Baarle-Nassau were aligned on the old lower-resolution imagery, so it's back to work on them.

The "Roads" layer in Byron, Illinois (not Port Byron) is shifted about one block west from the actual street location.

That's good. I have also noticed that the southernmost tip of Mongolia's border is over 2 kilometers off. There is an actual visible fence where the border really is.
