I just converted the gps data found here ( http://www.travelbygps.com/special/letour05/letour.php ) to google earth. I attached the file to this post, otherwise you can find it here: http://www.niels80.de/LeTour05/TourDeFrance05.kmz http://www.niels80.de/LeTour05/TourDeFrance05.kml

Thanks Niels, this is good!
Looks like this data includes stage start/goal, peaks and sprint points.
I also conplied kmz file for Stage 5, putting all towns listed on official time schedule. The placemarks are not accurate as all I know is town name, but it would help how the route looks like.
Also I put distanse data on town name ("to end" / "name" / "from start") and Sprint/Refreshment icon, then it will be help while you watch the live coverage on that day.
I will be able to do stage 4 and other upcoming stages, but can somebody help?
Thanks,
nagoyan
Note: I forgot to put Cat 4th peak placemark, then added. Thanks!
Note: Updated KMZ file with GPS data available at tour.ARD.de
Note: Updated KMZ file with course path!! Pls download it again..

Niels, Did you use an XSLT stylesheet for the transformation? Can you post the sheet. It would save us some time.

If I have time tomorrow I will make an XSLT style sheet which transforms all gpx info to kml file format.

Hi Cybarber,
I didn't use a stylesheet, i extracted the coordinates with the unix grep command and put it back together into kml-format using excel and textpad. Anyway, it worked somehow

Here is KMZ for Stage 14 - mountain stage.
I could not accurately locate Port de Pailhères (Cat H), the highest peak of this stage. Went thru the road between, couldn't find 2001m elevation point. If somebody know where it exactly is, pls let us know.
Also, I shuold say that all of the placemarks do not represent excact location of the TdF route/distance/points, except the finish line. All infomation I got is name of the town and distance from letour.fr website, then Google Earth Search will just tell where the town locates. So I could just guess the larger road between would be the one. But there are multipul choices of road expecially large cities.
If somebody knows good source of route info, that's highly appreciated.
Anyhow this KMZ and Google Earth app are way enough to enjoy the route and help you while watching live coverage
Thx,
nagoyan
Note: KMZ file is updated using GPS data available at tour.ARD.de
NOTE: Now KMZ file for this stage was updated - "PATH" data is added!!
