Just a hint.
If you ferel the hills/mountains around you are no that high, then change the elevation exaggeration value from 1 to.... 2,3,4 etc. Where I livew hills are 200m max but with setting 3 they look pritty Alps like.

Right, Google Earth allows 0 to 3 for exaggeration, and I use "1.5" as I got "actual" feeling like I climb up the real hill.
You know if you stand on a hill or a valley in the real world, you will feel the slope is somewhat harder than it's actual degrees, especially when you bike.
Cote de Maron (Stage 6, Cat 4 at 13.5km to go) looks like so flat on Google Earth without exaggeration (means number is "1"), but we watched the riders climbing bit harder on TV coverage.
So I recommend 1.5 exaggeration as a biker

Here is KMZ file for Stage 11 Route Map with path/point/distance info.
Stage 11 - Wednesday, July 13: Courchevel - Briançon, 173 km
It has 2 CatH and 1 Cat1 peaks including famous Col du Galibier. Will be such a tough stage.
The GPS data end at 1km to go in Briançon, so I added some path thru the finishing line reffering the map below.
For more infomation about this stage: letour.fr cyclingnews.com

He Nagoyan,
Just followed the 8tieme Etappe both on Dutch TV and your Stage 8 animation.
Wouldn't it be great if the teams standardly would have GPS tracking sothat we can follow them in realtime?
Imagine the cyclist placxeholders moving on the satelite map!
GE's netWorkLink feature! Like the Boulder Busses realtime update!
I read that in Stage 5 there was again a test with GPS tracking unfortunately it seems still in testing phase.

Cybarber, First, congrats for your countryman Pieter Weening for his first victory at TdF. He looks extremely happy!!
Right, the realtime tracking of the race on Google Earth is everybody wants, and I am frequently asked about it from TdF fans back in Japan... I don't know Google Earth API should have some realtime feature, but I believe it has. Hope TdF 2006 is fully supported by those geographic technologies.
Could you point me any source info about the experiment in Stage 5?
Thanks!

I found this....
"Network Link" - The Killer App for Google Earth
>Adding a "Network Link" allows you to fetch KML data from remote servers.
>It does this in two ways, Time Based or Location Based.
>So *anyone* can add dynamic data to Google Maps.
>example:
>1. If there was a cross country car race, and the cars were equipped with
>GPS and data fed to a server. You could request that data once every
>30mins and, if provided in KML format, it'd update Google Earth with the
>locations. Photos of the cars or current locations can be used as the icons.
This is it! Way to go for TdF 2006!!
I know the hardest point is how to get GPS data realtime from riders....they are 1 gram sensitive about the weight...

Check out the boulder bus realtime update. This is really maginificant. Imagine that Amstrong, Ulrich etc are tracked like the Boulder busses!

Are, Cybarber-san wa Oranda-jin desu ka? Nihongo ga joozu desu ne.
Anyhow, back to English for the rest of the world, yes, I am here in Japan and lots of people loves to watch it. Every stage finishes around midnight here so easy to follow.
Here is JSPORTS website for TdF.
Your links for GPS and NetworkLink is really interesting. Thanks for your knowledge!
