Forgive me if this has been mentioned earlier, but if our current civilization should end today and no more planes are ever built, modern planes would soon wear out. The last flight of the last plane would be a DC-3. They were designed before we understood metallurgy very well, so they were overbuilt like no other mass produced aircraft. DC-3s will still be flying after all other 20th century (and probably 21st century) planes are piles of scrap.

KG427 (cn 15968/32716) Built as a C-47B in Oklahoma City, USA and entered Royal Air Force service as a Dakota IV (KN353) at RAF Montreal. Later served in both Australia and Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Purchased by Transair in 1953 and registered as G-AMYJ (she actually carried the RAF serial XF747 while performing troop-carrying duties at that time). Flown in Egypt with Nile Delta Services as SU-AZF, then to Air Atlantique for pollution-control. Finally donated by them to the Yorkshire Air Museum. Painted as KG427.
Edit:There are a few less worthy bird's near by

Dakota. Dc-s Middle Wallop

C-47s in British and Commonwealth service took the name Dakota. The C-47 also earned the nickname "Gooney Bird" during the European theater of operations.
