Hey all, having had a chance to fly her I will miss Rose.
We flew her for the Nellis Aviation Nation Air Show a few years ago and did a WWII invasion reenactment. She droppped the Armys Golden Knights out the door and enjoyed the company of two B25's a B17 P51's P40's Spitfire Messerchmit aad Junker. It was quite a show.

I also have the pleasure of being close to the Hiller DC3 located at HWD.
I work at Hiller and and hang out in the hanger where she is stored.

Pics 1 and 2-Rose at Nellis Myself and S Damotta on the ramp, Low pass at the airshow by us.

Pic 3 S Damotta flying the Hiller DC3. First flight after the purchase from Bud Fields. Mr Hiller of Hiller Helicopters as well as Boeing board of directors seat holder is on board for this inaugeral flight. Mr Hiller passed away within a few months or this flight.

Re: Unresolvable DC-3's [Re: doc19403]

Thanks very much for the updated information doc19403 . I have updated the placemark to read as follows:

Quote:

C-47 at New Castle Airport
Placemarked by Jenkers

I received this message from user doc19403:

"Massey Aerodrome Museum moved DC-3 NC 18111 (c/n 1983) from the late David Tallichet’s Air Transport Command Restaurant on Rt. 13 at New Castle County Airport, Delaware, USA in November, 2006 to Massey Aerodrome (MD1) to be restored to static display condition. You should remove “C-47 at New Castle Airport”. Website at: http://www.masseyaero.org/index.html There is another DC-3 (unidentified) in a hanger at Spirit Airpark, Townsend, DE."

The C-47 will remain in the collection until imagery updates remove it so that it doesn't constantly get "re-found". Cut and paste 39°18'6.86"N, 75°47'54.96"W into the GE search box to see the location of Massey Aerodrome. Some imagery update soon may show NC 18111 at its new location.

Great photos. Thanks. I've now looked at your website and there's much more good stuff there too. Feel free to share some more in this thread if you can - particularly if you can link an image to a particular plane's location in a reply to a post. For that matter, share with any thread. I'm sure they will be appreciated.

Thanks ploppy, good find

It is much to long to be a DC-3 (max length=65'). But....

I think it is a C-46 Curtis Commando. The shape, especially of the tail, looks good. It measures a bit short (should be about 76', but then again the vertical stabilizer is missing) but otherwise everything else, including the shape of the wings stowed behind and to the right of it looks right.

It counts if you can accurately place the plane on the map and provide some verifying information. If so, reply to this sub-thread.
