I found this black rectangle in Alaska and I was wondering if it was censorship or an error or could they just not find any coverage for it (which doesn't make sense to me).

Maybe an airfield? That's what comes to mind because of its shape but that would be once huge airfield.
Maybe they're just missing photos that were damaged or something.
I'm voting missing photos.

Tazuras: I live in Alaska (Fairbanks), and have driven by that rectangle many times. The Alaska Highway is the small road that you can see just to the north and east of the spot, which straddles the AK-Yukon border. Believe me, there ain't nuthin there except mountains, glaciers, and whole lotta spruce, moose and mosquitos. The mountains to the south and west are the Wrangells in AK and the St. Elias range in the YT. If you follow the road south, you come to Kluane Lake, which means something like Big Fish Lake in the Native Athabaskan language. It is a really pretty area.
But to actually answer your question -- I have no idea why there is no coverage there. I have been exploring the Alaska images, and I am surprised I didn't see it.
Cheers, Jock

Looks like they're covering up the HAARP array.

Sorry, the HAARP array is nowhere near there. There are three placemarks for HAARP already, around 62 23 33 N 145 08 46 W
The black spot is a GeoCover dataset data drop out. It is present in all of the GeoCover2000 imagery.

Has anyone noticed that there is not one road that leads into that black square? Maybe its because.....the aliens live there, and they dont drive.

Possible military base?
Working from the local names on as USGS map i found:
Permission given for hydro electric plant - Ref Reynolds Creek<BR> http://www.krbd.org/NewsReports/021505_reynolds.html
Proof there was lots of mining carried out during and pre world war 2, after that i could find nothing, however it safe to assume that the mines infracstructres is still there. http://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/p1616/P1616-508.pdf
Possible old air strip in area, ref Snag Creek http://www.ourbigcountry.com/p/articles/mi_qa3787/is_200312/ai_n9302233
Baulloff Creek - Baulloff Mountain, i could not find anything on these however looking at a USGS TOPO Map Baulloff mountain looks to have a large near flat area at the top but then falls off on all sides, table top like. Its also worth pointing out this is the only real mountain on the range that has this charictaristic at a similar height and to boot it lands virtually dead center on our little black box.
Finanlly the entire sourrounds to the black bar is a nature reserve, which as we know from past experience is one of the best places (cover story) to hide something out of the way!
The funny bit is an agreement has already been made that if there is a military installation in the park that it should be supplied with sufficient water, see page 69: http://www.nature.nps.gov/water/management_plans/wrst_wrsr_final_screen.pdf
Also its possible this is not just covering one problem point maybe two or three, however i think its far more likely that there is only one hidden thing there and that the shape of the missing data is designed to just give you a larger area to have to search, my guess is top left

This is simply a region with no overlapping coverage to stich together. For the opposite phenomenon see the link below.
http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php/Cat/0/Number/208909/
Here the image overlap, but are incorrectly sitched so the buildings come out as duplicated in the image.
BYWY This IS a high clearance government installation in Oak Ridge Tennessee.

It's probably a gap between map layers.

I found one too, pointer is 39.29.39.72 n 74.22.06.70 w Its a black spot covering what looks like an island. Pure black little square. Has anyone checked with google to ask about security problems? Area 51 is posted in here, so maybe its just a mirrored solar array or something that has screwed with the picture. I dont know, just throwing something else out there.

That blac spot is abt 27 mile long and 3 miles wide and seems to be masking something below it. It crosses Alaska border into Canada.

I can't help but notice that plazma's two links have since been made empty. Coincidence or cover up? Plus, that strip has always been covered up, in 99% of imagery. You can't just accidentally miss 81 square miles! What's up there?

I think this is where the HAARP is located, it doesn't show up in the coordinates given in the book "Angels don't play this HAARP"
