A few hours after the last post, I got this from P. Stott at UNESCO:
Quote:
We seem to be having difficulty with our database, which seems to be unstable. (Corrections I made in September have been replaced by earlier locations.)
So I've been waiting a few days, and there have been some corrections, which I now posted. I also made some changes to the output KML, so the Places-tree gets a little bit less cluttered on sites with multiple locations.
Please re-download the file from the first post.
Enjoy!

Une Version française de la liste du patrimoine mondial est maintenant disponible! Télécharger le Placemark ci-dessus!
Sorry - but as my own french is a bit more than rusty, I'll have to continue in english from here ...
I just generated a version from the french UNESCO pages. The site names and most of the descriptive texts are now available in french. Some sites (esp. multiple locations) are not translated, but I found very few of those.
As I mentioned, my french is a bit rusty. So If you find bigger mistakes in the translation of the menus (not in the names and descriptive texts please, as they are auto-generated), just send me a private message!
Enjoy!
Edit: Removed remaining HTML tags from labels (Nov. 19, 2005). Edit: Fixed an error where criteria weren't parsed (charset problems) (Jan. 21, 2006). Edit: Latest UNESCO data imported (a lot of corrections). Some KML 2.1 features have been integrated. (Mar. 07, 2007)

The scripts have been updated to remove (hopefully) all remaining HTML tags from the site labels. There have also been some changes and corrections to the UNESCO data.
So, please re-download the english version here, ou la version française ici.
Enjoy!

Hi, I just saw your Epidavros placemark on GoogleEarth. Unfortunately you misplaced it, Epidavros is at the following location: 37°35'50.81"N 23° 4'27.28"E Greetings David

I just integrated the latest UNESCO data into the placemarks. There have been quite a few corrections, mainly in the Middle East, and Ashur was one of them, though the coordinates do not really match yours, Cush. But if you read the posts above, you'll find instructions how to report corrections to UNESCO.
So, please re-download the english version here, ou la version française ici.
Enjoy!

Hello, I've found some interesting facts while reading this whole thread regarding the excellent work from Herrminator [UNESCO World Heritage (another version)] I find very interesting is the ability of lots of people to ignore a perfectly clear explanation and keep going and going with the same thing over and over again. These are some stats from the first 4 pages of the thread: Herrminator explanation: 1st---2nd---3rd---4th---5th---6th How many people complaining after not reading explanation: 2---1---4---5---2---1 People complains cumulative: 2---3---7---12---14---15 This can be read as: Herrminator explained that would any inaccurate data be found, he couldn't fix it, that report should go to Unesco, to the mail address wh-support@unesco.org. Then 2 persons right away didn't read that message and posted 2 complains about inaccurate data. Herrminator explained a second time the same as he explained already in the first post. Another guy didn't read the 2 occurrences of the same explanation and complained about inaccurate data again. A third explanation coming from Herrminator that was quickly countered with 4 complains. By this time there were already 7 complains...and so on till a sixth explanation and already 15 complains. Another curious thing I've noticed is that, in one of the complains was written that the mail wh.support@unesco.org was not working... of course not as Herrminator already explained in the very first post, it is with a *-* not with a *.* But anyways Herrminator politely wrote: *I think the email address is wh-support@unesco.org* And what does he get as a response from the poster? Nothing else but this: *Whoa! Did I do something wrong? My first posting on the BBS and already I have people pratically screaming at me. Even people who agree with my pointing ot the error seem to be upset about something! Herrminator says I shouldn't be making corrections. All I wanted to do was to point out the error to UNESCO. Will someone tell me A) What did I do wrong B) How do I get the errors corrected*
So, Herrminator, I have to conclude that there is a conspiracy here by a lot of people trying to drive you crazy or something.
I can't finish my analysis without telling you that YOUR data about place XYZ is totally wrong and YOU should fix it right away! :-)
Seriously, congrats on an excellent job!

This is an excellent job !
However the coordinates of the site "Wadi Al-Hitan (La vallée des Baleines)" in EGYPT , were wrongly interchanged (the Latitude value is put as Longitude and vice versa), an unforgiven error which you are not responsible for, as it was also wrongly reported on the WHC website itself. The true coordinates should be : <longitude>30.183333</longitude> <latitude>29.333333</latitude>
Anyway, this cannot belittle the great job you did. "Chapeau !!"

Thank you EusebioLeal, for that great Analysis! Sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I didn't have Internet access for a few days.
I started this whole collection for my own pleasure, but it is very encouraging, if you're getting letters of appreciation, like yours, from time to time.
I'm well aware that you cannot please everyone, and the sheer number of World Heritage sites makes the placemarks quite prominent in the community layers. This is, of course, helpful for finding and correcting errors, when addressed to right people, but, as you can see, it also seems to make quite a few people unreasonably angry.
Your reply should make a few people think, but, unfortunately, somehow I doubt it really will. Nonetheless I hope all of you will do the same thing that I'm doing when compiling this collection:
Enjoy!
