Humayun's Tomb was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 for being the first garden-tomb in the Indian subcontinent and the design progenitor of similar structures. The buildings that followed include the Taj Mahal, which was built by the grandson of Humayun. There is a nice symmetry in this: Humayun's widow built this tomb for him and Hymayun's grandson built the Taj Mahal for his beloved first wife, Mumtaz.

It was a striking place. It exuded a quiet, dignified, respectful calm; a solid, unshakable presence; and a powerful linkage with the past.

Visiting India was a pleasure and standing at this spot was a jewel in that experience.

Ditto number1fan's photo comment. I have never been to the place, but I have to believe that the photo takes it beyond reality. A truely phenomenal image! The colors, muted and serene, and the composition have taken a man-made structure and given it quiet life, and, as per number1fan, has elevated it to the spiritually surreal. Thanks to Seer for once again sharing his remarkable photographic talent. That such an image can appear here on my own monitor in my own home overwhelms me! I am awestruck!!

This is really a beautiful tomb indeed. I was in Agra a number
of years ago to see the Taj Mahal.... but do not remember seeing
the Tomb of Homayun. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Most sincerely,
