Speed [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #580441 - 09/02/06 01:52 PM

Some more speed feedback:

Two similar laptops
4.0.1693 on a machine with 2 gigs of ram and a slightly slower CPU
3.0.0762 on a machine with 1 gig of ram and a slightly faster CPU

3.0.0762 machine has video driver ATI (00006.00014.00010.06525)
4.0.1693 machine has video driver ATI (00006.00014.00010.06561)

All other settings are the same

Clicked the placemark

from another post in this thread.

Tested zooming in (w/wheel), then out, then in, then out.

The 3.0.0762 is definitely smoother.. It's subtle, but not that subtle.. It's like the interpolation
feels more curved on 3.0.0762.. On 4.0.1693, it's jerky, and doesn't feel as smooth/slick.
Hadn't noticed it until I compared the two side-by-side, but now I do all the time.

Max Line width cut from 10 down to 4. [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #582303 - 09/03/06 10:02 PM

In lines properties
Very bad thing for people with poor eyesight. Please return it back to 10 like in good old days. Or at least to 9.5

Sugg. enhancement: live speed control for tours [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #583367 - 09/04/06 02:18 PM

When going on a long "tour"of a route, one is effectively forced with to choose between two alternatives: If there are sections of the tour you wish to see slowly, you must put the tour on low speed and sit for interminable periods of boredom on long roads. Or, if you want to avoid the long periods of boredom, put the tour speed on fast, but miss details in important areas. Can we get a control to adjust the speed of a tour while it is playing?

Re: Google Earth 4 - Beta2 feedback thread [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #584281 - 09/05/06 09:49 AM

Two suggestions/requests:

1) Is there any way we could get an option to disable the "Save to My Places?" dialog box that appears when you close Google Earth?

2) When using the Update tags to update the position of a placemark, is there anyway to get the description balloon to "follow" the placemark. What I mean is, currently, the description balloon disapears every time an update is made. Is there anyway to get it to follow the placemark as the placemark gets updated? I realize there might be an issue when the description balloon itself is updated but I'm sure that would be a simple solution.

Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to voice feedback on this project.

Works okay in Version 3, but not 4.
I use Google Earth with the US National Weather Service radar KML/KMZ files.
When I upgraded to version 4, the colors indicating the density of the clouds reversed so that thin clouds are now red and thick ones are blue.
This is easily verfiable.
Try a file and see for yourself.

I'm pretty sure Blue and Red are backwards for some reason when displaying GIF's in GE 4

I'm also getting poor performance in 4.0.1693b on a Dell Inspiron 9100 3.2 P4 with up to date Radeon Drivers. (Mobililty 9700). With the previous version, I did not have this issue.

Zooming with the mousewheel is very jerky indeed.

Ah, I found the thread in here from the 16th that talks about it.
Silly question, I know, but if they label this as beta software, wouldn't having some sort of bug reporting be a good idea? If there is any, I couldn't find it.

GE 4 Navigation UI: Thumbs Down. [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #587986 - 09/08/06 08:12 AM

Big GE fan, but...

I have to chime in and say that I hate, hate hate, the new 4.0 navigation controls. Discoverability sucked when I first saw it, and changing it on mouseover gives me an unwanted second mouse navigation every time I use it... 1) mouse over datum icon 2) navigate to desired control. Did you folks do any usability testing on it?

At least make it so it doesn't shrink back to a datum every time I mouse away.
