You are the second I've ever seen complaining on that. People want everything removed at all from the screen; so, why not a few miliseconds for a greater enjoyment?

KML2.1-documentation errors and GE4 bugs [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #588412 - 09/08/06 04:18 PM

I was experimenting with my GE3 version, which I downloaded end of April as current version. There are documents about the new features of the KML2.1 definition, which mostly didn't work for GE3, so I had to download the Beta (4.0.1693-Windows) version.

-> there is NO HINT IN THE KML2.1 DEFINITION which versions support KML2.1 it! Each tag MUST have a "supported by versions .."

-> some examples described there don't work. eg. the end tag is missing (code, coordinates!!, folder!!,request, type), or the start and end tag are written differently, the interpreter seems to be case sensitive (snippet), or a strange end tag </> (delete)

-> "url ..is deprecated in KML Release 2.1". When you create a networklink in GE4 and save it, you will see, it's still done by 'url' instead of the new 'link'

-> the snippet parameter 'maxLines' is not described in the document.

-> a placemark-update doesn't work for the snippet tag (and some other tags?)

-> an exported kml file doesn't have any more the proper CarriageReturn/LineFeed pairs.

-> I tried to do a placemark which can be modified by a HTML link in the placemark (update itself). It works fine as long as I use pure files (kml) with absolute paths or over an IIS. When I do the same with a asp.net application (myapp.aspx?param1=value1&param2=value2), on every update the Internet-Explorer is launched (would be ok), but after updating, an error messagebox appears "Open of file 'c:\documents and settings\admin\local settings\temporary Internet file\Content.IE5\RZ5A6YNF\myapp[1].kml' failed: Security Violation! Url 'C:\...'"

nice-to-haves:
-> A debug window in GE would be nice to see more about processing kml files.

-> after opening the ruler, "miles" is the default unit, even I have chosen "kilometers" in the session before. Would be nice not to forget the selected unit.

Tried the new version as of 13th of September 2006, but still no dice... dragged pixels around the borders of overlays is still a problem

I can't get URL decimal coordinates to work: having real trouble -- syntax I'm using is,

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=48.826308,2.346519&output=kml

-- worked ok before -- how to change that now?

I just installed 4.0.2080 and experiencing some really strange behavior. I open GE and it works just fine. I minimize it and then about 1/2 hour later I hear my fan blowing. I maximize GE and see that I'm zoomed in a bit and the globe is flying by . I grab the globe with the cursor and try to stop it, but as soon as I release the mouse button the globe keeps moving by itself like before. The only way to gain control is to terminate GE and restart. This also happened once while the window was not minimized and I was using it, but I can't tie it to any particular event. Nvidia 6800 card, XP SP2.

Hi

If you have a controller, it was a known bug. Please try the very recent version ( http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/597795/ ).

Suggested LookAt/TimeSpan enhancement [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #597975 - 09/15/06 12:23 PM

I have tested the animation feature now available in GE 4.0 beta with GroundOverlays. Here is the test KML file: http://map06.gsfc.nasa.gov/test/geos-movie.kml

It is a sequence of 20 images of precipitation, as predicted by the NASA Goddard Earth Observing System model (GEOS-5) starting Sept 13. The forecasts are 6hrs apart. To play the animation, shrink the width of the slider to minimum and press the Play icon.

Problem that could be solved by KML enhancement: The time slider starts with a default width that is greater than the 6hr interval between forecasts, so when the animation is first loaded several frames are shown together.

Recommended change: Allow <LookAt> to include a <TimeSpan> which would specify a width for the slider. That is, the overall width of the bar would be controlled by other TimeSpan elements, but the initial position and width of the movable slider would be suggested by LookAt. LookAt would then be able to specify not only the spatial parameters of the starting view but also the temporal parameter.

Glitches in time slider [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #597979 - 09/15/06 12:25 PM

Glitches in time slider with animation of GroundOverlays (e.g, http://map06.gsfc.nasa.gov/test/geos-movie.kml)

- On Linux FC4, no image is shown when the slider is moved to the very start of the time range using the triangle on the left, even though the first TimeSpan covers that time.

- On Windows XP, the LookAt directive was not obeyed, even though LookAt works with simple KML files without time dependence.

4.0.2091 issues [Re: tekgergedan]
      #604228 - 09/19/06 03:14 PM

First off - reporting system - Win2k, using OpenGL, nVidia card.

Ok, now a _REAL_ strange quirk. Not in any way limiting USE of the program, but nothing like I've ever seen before When I launch GE via the start menu, the splash logo looks fine. When I launch via a saved KML file on my HD, the splash logo appears differently. The bottom horizontal bar that was outlining the image is now raised a few pixels. Strange, but true!

Now a more serious issue. I have a COLLADA object that has for it's only effect element a lambert element, which is textured. Lambert is defined as having only the emission element used for lighting calculations. This does not work in this build. Changing to a standard phong element works, but defeats the purpose of using lambert in the first place.
