Here is a list of placemarks relating to places mentioned in the Bible.
Especially grateful to those who have already tracked down places on GE - Scottkarin, DistantViewer and Danny Hermon. Other sources include various Gazeteers, descriptions from the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia and Easton's Bible Dictionary.
Please note that if some placemarks are incorrect, let me know.

Hi John-
Here is the file with updates for the ruins of Capernaum and Jericho. Capernaum is further northeast along the Sea of Galilee than either of us had placed it. We were both very close with Jericho.

Heh, well I can't get enough Bible study - and knowing the geography helps me retain more. Paul's travels in particular truly amaze me.
I found some ruin sites you might want to update your placemark with:
Changed: Ashekelon Capernaum Hazor Qumran
Added: Herodium (aka Herodian) - Herod's palace south of Jerusalem Petra
Thanks, Scott.

Perhaps one of you could make the effort of inserting information into the placemarks themselves, such as scottkarin did for St. Paul's Journeys? It's time consuming but would make your presentation much more useful to the less familiar viewer.
Thanks for combining your two posts on the topic!

Actually, it looks like triggapoint changed the file - because at one point there were Bible Encyclopedia descriptions for most, if not all of the placemarks. So I don't know what happened, but the "effort" has taken place and there is more work being done.

It's a good job, so far.
One bit of info for both of you, Trigga & Scott: It's not necessary to post new KMZ files with each update. You can combine all of your various KMZ's into one file, and then simply edit the original post and upload the new (revised) KMZ to it. Once you do, make a note in both the header and the file about your update. This is what I do with the Military forum's "Collections Compendium" - update instead of replace. It has the end result of being much easier for your readers to get the entire information, instead of having to download individual placemarks from each of you., and it becomes much easier for you guys to manage changes and updates if everything is in a single spot. If you need help in learning how to do this, just PM any of the moderators - we'd be glad to show you how.

Oh - I'm sorry Sparky!
I just added this file (and updated once again) right at the same time you were posting!
We'll see if we can't learn to do this right and clean this up!

Ok, updated it with the descriptions included. The reason I omitted them for a while is that the placemarks were in such a mess. They're reasonably sorted now.

That's great to hear your interest in Bible studies Scott. What has gripped me is the Old Testament battles. Its really come alive. Especially the whole story of Saul and Jonathan and the battle that took place at Micmash.
Anyhow, I do have one question regarding the new locations you suggested.
Regarding the Hazor site.
According to the UNESCO World Heritage locations the placemark I indicated is the Hazor mentioned in the Bible. Tel Hazor: 33°0'59" N, 35°34'1" E
There is a town of Hatzor marked further south, but as the ISBE suggests, many of the modern towns of the same name have shifted from the original sites. Hazor: 32°58'38.96"N, 35°32'36.42"E
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
John.

Sadly, I've only been studying the Bible in earnest for about 2 years. I need to spend some more time in the Old Testament!
No, I think you and DistantViewer are right on with Hazor - nice work and I love the overlays.
John, anything you want me to work on, research, etc just let me know. Lucia mentioned illustrations - I don't know how to do those but am willing to help in any way. It would be great if we had overlays for more sites like DistantViewer shared with Hazor.
Have a great day, Scott

Scott & DistantViewer,
Since triggapoint has already included this information in his OP collection, please delete the kmz file when you get a chance. Otherwise, multiple duplicate placemarks will appear when the file is added to the GEC layers in the future. If you upload additional items for him, do the same once he indicates that he's edited the master list.
Thanks!
LM

Thanks Lucia - I didn't know to do that but it makes sense - there were actually several that needed deleting.
I think I got them all, but let me know if I missed any.
And yes, it's been fun working together on this.

FYI,
Based on the Bible places and Bible mapper icons I have created a visualisation of the Apostle Paul's missionary journeys (according to the book of Acts, which can be found in the New Testament of the Bible). The following journeys are visualised:
- Apostle Paul's first journey - Apostle Paul's second journey - Apostle Paul's third journey - Apostle Paul's journey to Rome
In order to 'fly over' the journey in Google Earth style, click on the tour folders and press the Play button to start the tour! The Tours of places visited placemarks were sourced from the Google Earth community as compiled by triggapoint and biblemapper.
Anyways, hope you enjoy looking at this information!
cheers, Mark

The locations that are quoted by Theologians are traditional, they are not independently confirmed and do not match the descriptions in the bible text. In truth, the number of tells within palestine number in the thousands and will take hundreds of years to cover. Most people are not aware of this, I myself became aware of this through the use of Google Earth.

First of all, thanks for putting this file together! It makes reading the Old Testament much more understandable.
There is one landmark that is missing in this file that is mentioned many times in the Old Testament. That place is Yam Suph (Sea of Reeds). It is the place where the miracle of the parting of the sea took place, which most historians agree was not the Red Sea. To my knowledge, the exact location of the crossing is still not known, but Yam Suph is believed to be the Bitter Lakes region.
I don't know how to add or modify a kml file, so please forgive me for taking the lazy way out and simply posting the coordinates here. The location of what is believed to be Yam Suph is approximately lat 30.274335 lon 32.443845. Hope someone finds this of value.
Thanks again for this great collection!
-Peter

I love this post. Anyone think about New Testametn things as well. Specifically looking for Island of Patmos & the Churches mentioned in Revelation.
Also can regions be added?? Like "The Roman Empire' circa 36 AD, etc.
