Fullbore/Highpower Facilities
      #524830 - 07/23/06 10:16 AM

View in Google Earth         View in Google Maps (11233 downloads)

These are facilities used for Fullbore/Highpower competition, though a few smallbore facilities are listed as well.

If you know of a facility that should be added, please send us at least one of the following:
  • A club webpage;
  • Directions to the range (maps are really nice);
  • GPS coordinates to the front gate (lat/long format preferred);
  • Any other information that may be used as a landmark.

Without any of the above information, it is pretty difficult to locate facilities. Even with a good set of directions, it can be difficult, since resolution in some of the areas of the "globe" are not as good as in others.

Some keys:
  • Thumbtack - Privately owned facility, 300 yards and less.
  • Flag - Privately owned facility, range greater than 300 yards.
  • Green circle, with dot - Government owned facility.
  • Red circle, with exclaimation point inside triangle - placeholder, facility not located with reasonable certainty.

Additional notes:

  • Please post edits, corrections, or additional facilities to this thread - I'll append the master attachment as time permits.
  • My thanks to German Salazar and Brian Murphy, both of whom did most of the work.

Thanks, and enjoy!

P.S. DO NOT attempt to open the file under "Google Maps" - the data file is too large for the program to map all sites, much less display them. ONLY use Google Earth.

Please add The Fusilier Complex located near Arnaudville ,LA, adjacent to the Atchafalaya River levee system. We have a 300 yard rifle range, a 50 yard pistol range, and a regulation Trap range.
Thank You

kc10x,

Thank you for the update about the Fusilier Complex. We will do our best to find it from the information provided.

B.

- Please note that one of the greatest difficulties we have encountered in this project, is finding range locations and websites that are descriptive enough to allow us to locate the range with google earth. If you are familiar with google earth, please post a place mark to the forum. Many of the areas don’t have enough detailed satellite imagery, for someone unfamiliar with the location to find it. If that is not possible, please post a website and a detailed description from a prominent terrain feature of where the range is. Even better would be Lat & Lon coordinates.

I have a temporary placeholder, as resolution for the area isn't the greatest. See attachment.
Proper name for facility: Hub City Rifle & Pistol Club (websearch and club webpage recognizes "Fusilier Complex").

Brian added several new sites in Australia, and folders for the various Australian Territories. (I KNEW there was a reason why I liked Perth so much!)

We located the Copicut Range near Fall River, MA. Bob Hain sent a correction on three ranges in the San Francisco Bay area.

All changes have been incorporated in the latest version of the master file.

Brian located a few more ranges in Australia. There are fewer placeholder markers as a result.

These changes have been loaded into the latest version of the master file.

Alastair Fitzmaurice sent us locations/updates for the following ranges in Eastern Australia:
  • Toowoomba
  • Lithgow
  • Gosford
  • Glenrowan
  • Stawell
  • Cessnock
  • Wondai
  • Mackay (Mt Vincent)
  • Ballarat

I located the Varmint Hunter's Association Range near Fort Pierre, South Dakota, and the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant near De Soto, Kansas. The latter is ideally situated as an alternative site for hosting the US Nationals, should Camp Perry ever become unavailable. However, there currently are no range facilities onsite.

The master file has been updated to reflect all changes.
