Orlando Florida USA. The red car in front of the house is mine, the white is wife's car.
Directly from my front door I saw today's Discovery launch, with a binocular 8x is totally possible to see all the thing, it is only 52miles away. All the colors of the vehicle, rocket and fuel tank, the propulsion fire and water vapor is impressive.
I was never able to hear anything, except the big double boom when it breaks back from speed of sound for landing, right over central florida, it is impressive, it really shake windows, literally.
On launch it is possible to see the separation of the two rockets, but I was never able to see the shuttle separate from the main tank. The reason is that being exactly west from the launch, and as every launch goes over the Atlantic and a bit to the north, they go away from me, all I can see is the shuttle going up and a bit to north (left) and then it goes getting distant and distant, until just a little spot of light on sky and turns to be very difficult to follow with my small binocular. It is easier to follow when the launch is at clear night, sometimes other type of launches, satelites and so on.

Mailing address is Pope, MS, USA but it's really on the edge of the earth. The lake shown is where the world record crappie was caught July 31, 1957. It weighed 5 pounds 3 ounces. We still have nice size crappie here and they are very ggressive fighters and tastey.
