Yes, this little marks are tabs - on the actual frame of the sensor, rather than on the film. They are called "fiducial marks" in remote sensing geek talk. We use them to put together this "Frankstein" of images, or this giant puzzle that is GE.

The actual position of the fiducial marks is very well known (measured during camera calibration procedures), as well as very stable. Therefore they are used to rectify, orient and register the image the image by matching the position of these fiducial marks on the image to their actual coordinates, combined with the flying altitude of the aircraft that carries the camera and with known locations on the ground (ground control points).

I would say you are correct. It appears to be a fiducial mark.
