Welcome to Mars! (please read Addendum first)
      #6007 - 10/22/03 10:00 AM

This forum is for placemarks that are on Mars. You must have already configured your (new) NV viewer to look at Mars or these placemarks will send you to some random places on Earth :-).

Enjoy.

Addendum: now that we've launched Google Earth, many people are asking about Mars in Google Earth. At this time, the (single) server hosting the Mars database can't accomodate any more users than our historical Keyhole NV and Keyhole 2 NV users. When those existing NV users upgrade to Google Earth Plus, they'll still be able to see Mars, but everyone else will not. We hope to make this database available to more people in the future.

Mars! How cool.

Big Question for me...how do you configure your viewer? Can't seem to find instructions. Been away for a while! Can't wait!

You'll need the new 1.7.2 NV installer found on the Keyhole website. Once installed, check out the Prefs menu for "Globe Server" tab, choose Mars, and restart the app.

Penguin:
How do we use "geforce" mode to fly on Mars? The 'take me to' panel seems to be missing on Mars.

Because there is no geocoder for the Mars database, that UI was removed, which makes it impossible to fly Mars with that secret incantation. Sorry.

The International Astronomical Union lists "official" Martian placenames. The database of names is here. One example:
Code:

Roddenberry 49.8S 4.6W 141.0 NA AM I2365 MC26 5 1994 0 AA Gene; American engineer,
television producer
(1921-1991).

This rock is named 'Barnacle Bill'

Anybody have the lat/lon for Stimpy, Yogi and Scooby Doo?

P.S. I am still amazed that nobody has claimed that NASA pulled the image feed from Spirit once they saw the first "Bigfoot" wander into view.

There has been some confusion about how to login on to the Mars server In Keyhole 2 (Keyhole 2 NV only). To do so, use the "File" menu "logout" option, followed by "login". Select the "Mars Database" from the server menu.
