Hi,
I would like to collect climbing placemarks in this thread. Please contribute with all the crags, mountains or boulders you know of. It would be nice to have a link to a discription of the place in the placemark.
Here are some that I have collected.

Keywords to help people find this thread:
Arnad, Chamonix, Romsdal, Aspen, bouldering, bigwall, climb, Stugun, Fontainebleau, Hönö, Utby, troll, Matterhorn, Kilimanjaro, peak, summit, mountaineering, rock, topos, glacier, Pollux, Castore, dent de geant, via ferrata.

It was some work. But i just started!

I want france italy, spain, UK, germany, swiss in there with as much area's as possible. Maybe try to get a community together. When other communities would work on other continents. what a great DB would that be for planning trips.

And important. Including hyperlinks and campsites etc.

When european or wroldwide routeplanning would work, it would be the best !!!!

ps. i have more than i linked in previous posts.

Here are some climbing locations in the UK. No supplementary information as yet - good idea though to put campsitre info etc.

I am working on places in the USA - basically finding all the best locations out of Tim Toula's "Rock and Road" book. I will post this when I've made a bit more progress.

Wow - good effort!
As you probably know, there is a database of UK crags at www.ukclimbing.com I had not found an efficient way of getting this information into GE so I have just been doing it by hand. I started by simply putting in the crags that I think are worth visiting (and the ones I pretty much know where they are) whereas you seem to have taken up the monster challenge of an exhaustive list... This will be a great resource.
I'll try to contribute some more when I get time...
Cheers,
Rich C.

Is it clever when we would join the work and don't double our efforts?
Maybe split up the regions? I strated at wales and south england allready. For york, peak, and lake i only put up bouldering and limestone.

www.lakebloc.co.uk
www.yorkshiregrit.com
DB from rokcfax.com
peak bouldering guide
own experience.

what you think?

I am working on germany also. Got a lot done allready.
Belgium is ready.
France, spain, italy could mean a LOT of work.

G'day,

The online Sydney Climbing Guidebook includes both an online crag map (courtesy of Google Maps) and a Google Earth data file.

The Google Earth data file can be downloaded from http://www.sydneyclimbing.com/sydney_crags.kml

Cheers,
Peter

I see there are two places marked Trow Gill.

The one to the East is the wrong one.

Hello my friends.

I added 2 climbing spots in northern Portugal. I believe those are the first ones for Portugal.

Trow Gill is actually a mile north-west of the place where you marked it. The trees along the sides make it quite distinctive.

I'm doing the same work with the Italian spots.
At the moment this is a first selection of the Climbing Sites on my region (Emilia-Romagna).
As soon as I can I'll upload many others!

Carlos,

The placemark you added, is not Sport & Adventure world Alkmaar. But is called De Geus Sports Club and is not in Alkmaar but in Langedijk. This is a town near Alkmaar. It is also not portugal but the Netherland.

the placemark is situated in the wrong place, it should be lower to the left where al the cars are parked.

greetings Remy de Jong

Petje,
the placemark you added is not the exact climbing spot in the Upper Danube Valley, the real place is some km further down the danube, it is called "Hausen im Tal", there you find all facilities for free climbing.

Here are some places in the US that I have climbed (since getting a GPSr). These waypoints have been marked personally--and so verified--not just browsed in GE. I prefer using actual coordinates off my GPSr if possible.

I'm kind of surprised that there hasn't been more posting on climbing areas. I might be able to add a few from Italy if I can find them on GE.

Here are all positions of the Elbsandstein summits, and a lot of czech sandstone summits, and from some other areas as Meteora, Greece and Belogradchik, Bulgararia.
A significant number of the positions was measured by GPS, others were interpolated and some evaluated by Google Earth.
All the positions were collected in the climbing database on sandsteinklettern.de . This site allows also to generate updated kml files.
Some of the Elbsandstein summits posted by petje seem to orginate from an earlier stage of the sandsteinklettern.de data base.

I only noted that you placed Lumio (Corsica) in the wrong place. Should be moved some 10 km WSW. You'll see the village name easily.

Climbing?

You think about climbing?
I´m shure, that was only hiking,
maybe scrambling - but nothing more.

For example:
Schafreuter.
There is nothing to climb,
it´s only hiking.

AND:
Schafreuter ist 2,5 km to the south-east.

regards,
Achim.

Hi!

Thanks a lot for your file on climbing sites in southern Germany.
Unfortunately, you located some of the walls about 2km too far
to the north:

Kunstmühlefels, Linke Wittlinger Felsen, Geschlitzer Felsen,
Hockenlochfels

Sorry, I'm new to Google Eearth and do not know how to do more
than telling you.

Regards,
Johannes

Hi,
I just made a trip to explore hills near Buxton for paragliding. When working on results I found your link on GE: Castle Naze
If I can help you any way, pls, let me know.
I live in Crewe, Cheshire, one hour to drive.

My best regards,

Hi,
You have two entries labelled “Woodwell” in Silverdale at the end of Morecambe Bay, Lancashire, England.
These are certainly not climbing locations, just places of natural beauty, not much above sea level.
You might like to consider deleting the entries.
Regards,
Paul.
