These are Sudan swaths 2 and 3. BBS management has directed that data problems may not be placed in the forums which are scanned for Community layers, so visitors must download the Compendium files.

The duplications are very numerous - they've been partially identified in THIS POSTING

sasroodkapje,
The Galapagos are a collection of unfortunate color balances amongst the various images, and your particular selection of Isla Fernandina is appropriate. It has been added to the "Strange Colors" area of THIS POSTING.
However, your companion posting entitled "strange error" in the Houston, Texas, harbor is unclear to me. While there are some odd watery discolorations, I don't see any special error. Am I missing something here?

Hi Price,
I dont have a good tool to draw lines in the picture, so I put some dots on it.

sasroodkapje,
Aha! You meant the lines.
There are many patterns of lines all over the harbor. I don't see how to call them image errors or even blemishes. They appear to be just the way the camera sees the water with specific lighting, weather, etc.
It points up again my contention that the water should just all be flat blue. It is a transient photographic image of some months or years past, with no permanent relevance past the moment when the picture was taken. Ships move on, whales dive again... the seas change each moment.
I suggest that Google Earth is not relevent for real time oceanic monitoring. No doubt, the oil spills under your lines changed form and direction minutes or hours later. We're a long way from high resolution coverage of the 30% of the earth which is land... I can't see worrying about the 70% which is water... at least not in this decade.
Coloring the entire IJsselmeer blue would have removed the fake duplicated sailboats.

"Google Earth is not relevent for real time oceanic monitoring" Do you you mean Google Earth imagery is not relevant for real time oceanic monitoring? Because regular vanilla Google Earth w/out dynamic kml isn't even suited for real time Earth monitoring. With the right data sets and kml, it would be perfectly suited for real time monitoring.
Sure ships move on and whales dive, but then again cars and trucks keep driving, people walk away, planes fly around, trees change with the season and/or get chopped down, and buildings get knocked down and rebuilt, etc. Granted, some of these have more consequence than others, but if people enjoy looking at busy waterways just to say "cool, look at that big ship", doesn't that itself have value even if the image has no permanent relevance?
I agree that they shouldn't actively seek out imagery of water because land is much more interesting to look at, but if it comes with a set of imagery (like a city's busy harbor), then they should just put it in rather than spending the extra time to censor it out.
