Hey sorry to get all the Ruskies in a bunch over there.....but this was named most radioactive place on the planet by Greenpeace. If you like your fluorescent glow ..... well cool.
Just stay right there and have a party.
Area 51 I'm sure has some degree of contamination.......one area to it's north is pretty bad because of some weapons tests. But our government has made efforts to clean up and does not allow farming in the area. Not that the landscape would provide ideal farming conditions to begin with......On that note.....I guess it was a smart move to test there.
Besides....all the strippers in Vegas have big old boobs which Im sure are mutations from all the testing in the area. We planned this too !!

Well.....I didn't put it here. There's a few of my posts that I consider mis catogorized. But I'm no admin......who knows their reasoning?

Hey Everyone
This is the most frightening thread I have read in a long while , particularly the report and pictures of Elena's fast journey to and thru Chernobyl. EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT. Thank you, Elena!
I do not see how civilization can survive and grow without the use of atomic energy; it is inevitable that we will continue to use it, increasingly, to supply the energy needed for that survival. Hopefully, we can find a form of atomic energy production which is far safer than the form we now use.

It is pretty frightening that any government would allow such mass contamination to occur without compensating the folks living in the area.

swpmre: Zoomies; a really short course: As a former nuke worker, there are three things to consider regarding Exposure (versus Contamination): Time, Distance and Shielding. ^_^
Exposure versus Contamination (think of dog doo...) Stepping in the pile would get you contaminated, but the smell is 'only' exposure. ^_^
The exposure bit depends on how close Kid Speed's unprotected skin was, and for how long.
Radioactivity is all around us. Anyone who works at or lives close to a coal handling facility is exposed to Thorium... coal's dirty little secret.

Surely you must have exposed your self to contamination. In your photos, your hand is exposed to the elements? How dangerous was it?

Is Thorium radioactive? Does it only get released when coal is burned?

Recently a reporter and camera crew were allowed into the area, and although the devastation was horrendous , the recovery has been remarkable. Previously rare species are now thriving in the absence of human activity and retaking the urban areas. The radiation levels are much lower than predicted. I would not want to live there, but would not be afraid to visit the town. The reactor itself? I'll pass.
