I've been using Google Earth for over a year now, but within the last month or two, it's been starting to cause my computer to freeze. I DL'd the new GE4 beta version thinking that it may fix the problem, but it seems to be getting worse. What happens is after completely freezing everything about my computer for a minute or so, it gives me a "Display driver is not responding" error message, then the display goes very simplistic and everything runs so slow it takes like 2 minutes just to close a program, and I usually just have to go for the power button. So any ideas on what may be causing the problem and if it can be fixed? Thanks!
Operating System: Windows XP CPU: Intel Celeron M, 1.5 Ghz System Memory (RAM): 248MB Hard Disk: 19GB free space Network Speed: 56 Mbps - Wireless Graphics Card: (I think this is it) Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family Screen: 1024x768, 16-bit

Howdy James, from what you say there are a couple of things you could try,
1. Seeing that message about the display driver would prompt me to download the latest driver from the manufacturers site and install it.
2. Clearing your memory and disc cache from the Tools > Options menu could also possibely help.
3. Your machine is not at the high end and your ram is sort of low, adding a bit more ram would definitely help as GE 4 is much hungrier than V3.
4. I see you have the display set to 16 bit,, try 32 for both the display and GE as set in the options again.
5. You don't mention anything about housekeeping but if you don't keep up, a disc cleanup and a defrag wouldn't go astray either.
You could also click on the link in my signature for a few more hints.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

I did #2 and 4, and it seems to have worked. And I do defrag and clean up every so often already. Thanks!

STRONGLY recommend you consider #1. That chipset is known to have lots of problems, especially in older versions of the driver.

I looked for an upgrade for my driver, and the one I found gave me messages that it was untested and might not be good to download. I downloaded it anyway, and my monitor refused to work until I uninstalled the driver. Do you know where I can find a driver that will actually work?
