A limestone cave which is actually misprinted on the USGS map as Casparis Mines. The stream which carved out this cave of very narrow passageways actually flows out of the mouth. At the end of the cave there is a spring which flows from the ceiling through a crevice and is known as the 'Rain Room. (I call it the shower room) This is a very unique cave with many large spiders in it.

These openings were once blue limestone mines from the 1930s through 1950s, and extend up over a quarter of a mile into the mountain. They are made up of four tunnels, standing side by side, and are more than forty feet tall with the smallest being about twenty feet.

Closing of Casparis Caves, Connellsville, Fayette County: On August 5, the Casparis Caves in Connellsville, Fayette County were closed due to a cooperative effort between DEP, Laurel Sand and Stone, Cenex Explosives, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The caves were actually four abandoned limestone mine passageways that had become a serious public safety hazard for people entering these passageways, due to very unstable conditions such as roof and rib falls. Representing the Bureau of Mine Safety were Industrial Minerals Underground Mine Inspectors Mark Eckley and John Bentzel, and Emergency Response/Training Specialists John Cool and Larry Stowinsky. The floor in front of passageways was shot to create material to be used for the closure of the mine portals. This closure was supposed to be completed on August 10. Efforts such as these are in conjunction with the Department’s “Stay Out – Stay Alive” public safety awareness program. (Contact: Mark Eckley; 570-621-3139, Pottsville BMS)

That's a shower I'll have to go without! Small & medium spiders? Fine. Large spiders? I'll just use the lake, thanks!
