Iraq Kurdistan and other places- update 9/4/07

I suggest that you download the placemark collections and use them in google earth. Using it through google maps will be too bothersome, since I have pictures embedded in the placemarks. Pictures will take a while to load at times, so give it time.

******Big update. I've done some major revamp of the Iraqi-Kurdistan region, and that has become my main concern now. Most of my placemarks in Turkey have been removed as I've been bothered and bugged about it, and I do not want to cause any vibes. I have added a plethora of my own images to them now, so I hope that there'll be a better idea of these areas. I am also going to slowly add these pictures and others on to panoramio in the coming days. Most of these images came from a very high resolution at a high mega-pixel (8.1), but I had to tone them down and place them on photobucket so they won't strain most people. As such, the qualities will be reduced. If for whatever reason you want a high-res copy of one of my pictures, PM me with your email and I'd be glad to send you a copy. Here are some tastes of new pictures-

I also encourage you if you have interest in this area to check the contributions others have submitted, especially the nice panoramio images.

*original post

I've checked across the BBS, and I have seen pictures of this place, but those didn't go too much into detail . This place peaked my interest, (Since I'm from there anyways, and have been there) so I decided to put together some marks (With info and pictures on the descriptions to the best of my abilities and feed back).

I've started on trying to get all the interesting things on Kurdistan. Please post feedback of any kind. Constructive, requests, if there's something you've found or a good picture, please post them.

**Note, I refer to this area as a Cultural Region rather than a political unit. All cities are a part of their respective nations. I'm not a separatist, nor do I support the PKK. My grandfather was killed by the PKK in 1991... I have no love for them, so don't think this is something political. I'm just giving insight to an area I love.

And please, if you are going to say something, speak English. It will help everyone on this forum if you can speak it. If you come and flame rather than contribute, then I'm afraid you've missed the point of a forum. If you take offense to this, then don't download it.

I'm not an expert, and as such I may have bad information and/or incorrect. If you have a good site with information that you think should be mentioned or corrected, please feel free to post it.

I've updated some of the Information on the cities and the the regions. To learn more about the places, click on the place mark, and the description will come up, as well as some links to a picture relating to the place. Check the folders for an overview of the place. Check my first post for the link of the new file.

Any feedback?

Those of us who work in and for the army here the work is one mostly of logistics.this may be Kurdistan on both sides of the river but this is also the Iraq/Turkish border.

I don't why I forgot that. When I visted my relatives the last time, it was a pain to cross over. They had to do background checks, and may different things. My family and I were stuck there for a while (I think 2-3 hours) last time. Our relatives were right there, on the other side of the bridge, I could see them come out of the building near by to see if any cars came out through the gate. I always crossed this place, but I never knew the name of the place. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll update the placemark with it and some pictures.

I like that kind of feedback. I've been to this place, but only to where my relatives are (Southern Kurdistan/ Northern Iraq), and Diyarbakir on my way there, so I don't have too much info on places outside of that.

Check the first post for updated placemark.

Thanks for those... in Irbil I noticed what looks like a very large garden. Do you know anything about it? Is it old or relatively new? The design of it is just stunning.

Sorry for taking long to reply. I was tied up the whole week.

Yes, I noticied that place, it certainly does have a great design. I wish I could tell you about it more, but I spent most of my time in Dahok and Akre. I only visted Hawler once with my dad to visit a friend of his, and I didn't have much time to sightsee. It's probably a memorial built to honor the peshmergas and the sacrifices they made for the Kurds. I believe it's recent, though.

And Ayatollah, this thing I've started is mainly based on the Kurdish regions, but I'm with you for some high resolutions. I too would like to see Persopolis and Pasargadae. Iran has got its share of great cities too, and I was surprised that Iran didn't get any high res shots, I always wanted to see how Azadi looked from space.

And I'm aware of the low resolution of the places, thats why I've put links of pictures in their descriptions. I'd put some overlays, but I really can't seem to find good ones that'll actually fit in correctly.

Another note though, there is a large hotel in Hawler, (I think it was a sheraton), and I'd like to see if any of you could locate it. Also, if you guys think you have found some interesting places in the Kurdish lands, please post them.

Check my first post for some improvements and some new placemarks.

Ultra-Bump

I've been away for sometime. I'm revising some of my texts and pictures at the moment, and trying to see if there are any locations that are incorrect, or if there are other pictures that I can use instead.

If you guys have suggestions or pictures, please post them.
