An update to Google Earth's imagery dataset on Nov 23 puts some of the major refugee camps on the Chad side of the border with Darfur in high resolution. Here they are.

Bravo on an excelent post! The great thing about GE, in my book, is that we can now see the scope of the refugee problem in this most remote area.

For some reason the map you use won't load as an overlay, but I've found another version which seems to work. I've attached the overlay along with a number of placemarks which locate destroyed villages. Very sad that we cannot stop the genocide. Maybe being able to see this directly will help.
Here is how the destroyed village Balla looks in GE:

The situation is beyond horrible. I can only hope that the new GE images will provide information to more people about what is going on in Darfur. I live in NYC where the media market covers international events extensively, but even here, coverage of Darfur seems to be dependant upon an individual reporter taking an interest in the calamity, such as Nick Kristof in the NY Times and Ann Curry on NBC.

I think it's great that people are posting images from this area of the world, the more attention we bring to the crisis the better. Thanks for these pictures and posts.
