The Windows version is 4.0.2693, dec. 16 2006 on my system does not display waves while the annimation is running in the model http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=710643
the waves blink off / on while the annimation is running.
if you installed the new version, check it out and please reply.

Hi
Your waves display ok on my system, using 4.0.2693 (superb model btw).
The only issue I've seen with the new version is that the wheel in my Ferris animation now rotates the opposite way to the carriages.

Hello James,
Thanks for the input, i reloaded the new version, logged off of the GE server, dumped the cache, rebooted the system and then zoomed out a bit and extended the time spand to max and allowed all instances of the waves to completely load.
it was Running great, and the "colors" in Direct X mode with the new version are no longer tainted.
i rebooted again , reloaded the model and the same error occured, blinking water while annimation is running.
I zoomed out a bit and the water appeared, zoomed back in and the water maintained presence.
in the kml i used tilt, roll, elevation settings for ship movement. some of the tilt settings are negative values.
with the new version i notice the ship's stern is now extruding too high in some instances.
am thinking the error is a combination of the ship settings (neg. values and such) combined with the initial point of view that model loads with.
things i will look at later on ...... "exaggerated stern elevation" "have to zoom out to clear blinking water " "negative values and other ship settings for tilt / roll/ altitude"
****
if i alter the the ships settings for the new version, it will not be downward compatible for older GE version viewing
created new kmz with altered ship settings, tilt values, set absolute altitude for raised stern, set new initial startup view, for GE ver 4.0.2693, Dec162006
altered kmz for GE ver 4.0.2693, Dec162006 is here
************** The new version seems to run a bit smoother.
in ref. to the Ferris Wheel , the same here opposite rotation.
Such a beautiful model, hopefully you will not have too much work in front of you to correct, maybe if you place it on the other side of the globe, 180deg. the rotation error will go away? (picking at you)

I have a major problem. I have already created like 20-40 models in Downtown Kansas City, and they have all (the new ones that is) turned black, the older ones have stayed the same white color but the newest ones are now all black.

post a url to a sample SU model that is giving you problems.
i opened a few of your models from the GE Warehouse and placed them into GE and they look good here. more recent uploads such as models dated Nov. 2006.
try viewing in DirectX and OpenGL mode to see if error is the same, might be a video driver issue with your graphics card
check http://www.gearthblog.com/ article on new updates,
there is also a link on that page to ink_polaroids update comments.
it possibly could be a result of reversed faces in the SU model.
if you havent already checked, while in SU view pulldown menu > rendering > monochrome
look for reversed faces, normally the default is blue surfaces.
if you find any, right click the surface and select reverse to turn it grey (front face)
check the tutorial post http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php/Cat/0/Number/435971/page/vc/vc/1 for screen shots

Thanks for confirming this.
I had a look at this again and it seems the wheel is suffering from the 3rd suggestion you mention - the <tilt> orientation is reversed in 4.0.2693.
Easily fixed by making the <tilt> angle values positive (from negative), but as you say, doing so breaks the animation for previous GE4 versions.
**********
I've re-opened your model several times and still not come across the 'blinking' issue you mentioned. I'll drop you a line if I manage to reproduce it.
Interestingly, after rebooting, then opening up the SS Fitzgerald again, the new version of GE appears to very quickly pull the whole thing from cache without having to maximize the timeline.
Clutching at straws here. but I wonder if it's possible the part of your cache storing the textures/models gets corrupted when you close/restart GE ?
**********
Agree with what you say about models running smoother in this version. Texture handling in particular seems greatly improved.

Well the ones that I have uploaded to the warehouse aren' the ones I have in my model, I stopped uploading models to the warehouse so I could wait and upload them all in a large file so ppl won't have to download 100 files...
So the ones i have are on my own program, they were all fine, and I can fix them by reloading them individually, but was wondering if there was a faster fix.

this explains the stern of the ship being raised, (actually the whole ship), the positive tilt values were causing the raised error not the neg as previously mentioned
i could have that flip flopped, it happens quite a bit with my slight Dyslexia (slight Dyslexia = my excuse for not wanting to think!)
i went ahead and created a new .kmz & added a url/link to it in the initial Fitzgerald annimation post with a message for which GE ver. to use.
may be the only alternative you have for the Ferris Wheel at this time.
