Here is a 23,040 x 11,520 pixel, color Super Overlay for Google Earth 4. This is meant as a basemap. If anyone would like to contribute additional data (placemarks, etc.) to this, please let me know.
Source: Mars Digital Image Mosaic at 64 pixels per degree produced at the U.S. Geological Survey in Flagstaff, Arizona
Also, I have a much higher resolution greyscale Mars overlay (Themis IR 256 ppd, whatever that means). Any interest in that? That one has 3 GB TIFF source image (~92,000 x 46,000 pixels) so wasn't going to process it unless there is interest.

3 GB TIFF source image (~92,000 x 46,000 pixels)
We can store with NTFS and Unix only? I do not know exactly, maybe Superoverlay can make this with 7 Gb of memory. I am not have this computer.
Near 1.5 Gb we can tile on computer with 4Gb of memory. It is real fact, not my work. Now i wait exact results of this tests.
If you can crop this then all ok.

Global Mapper can handle 3 GB TIFF files very easily. I just have Global Mapper split the large TIFF files into smaller ones than can then be processed by SuperOverlay.

Very good. I don't can test this dataset and very interest to results as developer and GIS user. Maybe Superoverlay can tile 3Gb also? In documentation about use memory in Net operations i not see exact limits. Before i see talks about problems with files >2Gb and FAT32 only.

I started workign on the 3 GB version last night. Should finish it up tonight. I split the original image into 18 smaller images and am using SuperOverlay to process the smaller images. I'm using JPGs and looks like the final tile set will be about 750 megs.

Here's a little preview of the bigger Mars Super Overlay (92,160 x 46,080 pixels). Came out to around 20,000 tiles and about 950 megs. Global Mapper and SuperOverlay used to make the tiles.
Tiles will be uploading for a few more hours. As soon as their done, I'll post a link.
To bad there is no way to incorporate DEM data

Maybe DEM can use as simple image? See http://srtmkml.googlepages.com/

Well I'm sure you are aware of this, but there is a lot of very high res ( ~a few meters) Mars imagery available from MOC . I've had it in my head for a while now to try to put the all the available images into a network link, but I suppose that is easier said than done.
In any case, I do have an old set of MOC 'pic of the day' overlays at this post that I would like to use with your overlays. Unfortunately, they seem to have too low of a draw order to work nicely.

Unfortunately, just discovered this thread...
We've put together a similar SuperOverlay at http://www.marsterritory.com

We've updated our Mars Superoverlay at www.marsterritory.com to include the NASA high-res WMS maps and rottenapple's (another poster) landing sites and geography overlays. Thank you to them both!
