There is something magical about a truly grand hotel.
Speaking about Cliveden House, R. W. Apple remarked that it was "the product of extaordinary wealth allied to a taste for the sumptuous." This strikes close to the heart of the matter, and characterizes many of the world's unique hotels.
These posts highlight a few that I like. Please share your favorites too!

My favorite hotel, The Lanesborough is the choice of people who could choose to stay anywhere. Next time you are in London, you might consider it for your home away from home.
Outside, facing Hyde Park Corner (Placemarked face, entrance around right corner)
Suites are comfortably spacious, with a relaxed sitting room,
an ample dining area in the sitting room, and,
a private, restorative bedroom.
This hotel, with its wonderful service, food, and accomodations, will transform a few week's visit into a lifetime cherished memory. The private direct-dial phone number, the calling cards with your name, address, and number waiting upon arrival, the Bentley, the customized menu, etc., all these things are a world apart.

Hi Seer, I was born there. It used to be St George's Hospital!
