Either a mock town has been set up here, or the Marines are playing with Legos:
I assume this is for urban warfare training. Anybody know for sure?
I also heard that there's not one but two mock Starbucks there.

What a fascinating post!
I wonder whether this is supposed to represent some real city? And if so, I wonder whether we can figure out which one!

doesn't represent a 'real world' city. close to 'legos' though - big conex boxes for urban warfare training (google "mout").

there's no starbucks, but it IS a training facility. it's called 'viper mission'. i am a roleplayer. we stay for about a week, living as close to authentic iraqi, as possible.

Thanks for the info, wickedsmilee and pkat29p.
Arte, the German-French television station, recently ran a documentary series about the U.S. In one segment they were actually on this base, and in one scene they set up their camera just outside this mock town. In the background I saw the golden dome of a (mock) mosque, so I went back to GE to look for it. In updated imagery it's there:
Looking at the photo in my original post, it appears the dome was added later. One other change: there's now a wall around the mosque.
Still looking for those mock Starbucks, though.
