Same problem present on Radeon Xpress 200m on 64bit Fedora Core 6.
I wish I knew whether to shout at Google or ATI on this one. I guess we can
only shout at both of them until something gets done...

Reverting the ATI driver does not seem to be an option for me. The last version that
worked for me was probably 8.27 or 8.28. Since I "upgraded" to Fedora Core 6
with the Xorg server version 7.1, I was forced to "upgrade" the ATI driver.
This is now at 8.32.5 and still no luck.

I see the invalid ioctl too, but since both Google and ATI driver are closed-source
it is impossible for us to tell what it is supposed to do.

Re: Problem with GE on openSUSE 10.2 on Intel 945 [Re: Bruno_Bowden]

Hi all,
I installed GE on openSUSE 10.2 running on Dell Inspiron 6400. Whenever I run the program it says that it is running in "Software Emulation" mode. I checked my driver and I have the latest version. What is the solution?

Re: Linux Drivers - "Could not access Graphics Card" [Re: Bruno_Bowden]

Im a developer that use to package software and im with problems regarding running googleearth due to ATI library files.

I use mandriva 2007 and after i install the rpms ati and dkms-ati, googleearth doesnt run since it somehow conflicts with the file /usr/lib/ati/libGL.so.1

If i uninstall the packages ati, dkms-ati (that are needed to have dri and 3D acceleration, then googleearth runs, else it simply doesnt run, just appears the googleearth logo and freezes.

It would be better if google could put the source code available, this way will be posible to have googleearth correctly build and working like is should.

Giving prebuilt binaries isnt a correct policy, specially in linux in wich there are so much variables (so manby ditros, that runs different gcc versions, gnome versions, etc).

In resume i will never be able to have my apropriated ATI drivers installed and run googleearth at the same time.

Re: ATI XPRESS 200m on SuSE 10.1 64bit - hangs [Re: lemmy98]

This still happens with the latest Google Earth and latest ATI drivers
(8.33.6). I have an HP nx6125 also with the Radeon Xpress 200M.
I'm totally pissed off with it. By the way, the call which causes the
invalid ioctl is glXWaitVideoSyncSGI - you can easily find some
detail on what that is supposed to do. I tried to open a trouble
ticket with ATI, but just got an automated response saying they
don't provide direct technical support for laptops/notebooks.
Their bot had the cheek to sign off with
"Thank you for choosing AMD and have a great day."
AMD are a division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation now?
(apologies to D. Adams...)
