looking up at skyscrapers from ground level
      #769008 - 01/24/07 05:54 PM

Hi,

I am trying to construct a tour from ground level around a city. I have built some skyscrapers and want the tour to look up at the skyscrapers on an angle, as if you were on the pavement.

I have played around with the touring options (camera tilt) but it doesnt do anything. can anyone help please.

thankyou in advance for the assistance.

josh

Hello Josh,

This isn't possible unfortunately the position and viewing angle of the camera is set relative to a point on the ground and always looks at that point on the ground; the maximum tilt is going to be a tangent off the Earth's suface...

[ Edit: Well, maybe! see Hill's response: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php/Cat/0/Number/771279 ]

Simon.

I'm not sure how well this will work for what you want, but there is a device called Space Navigator which lets you actually look up from ground level. It will only maintain that view while you still are providing some input - once you let go it returns to horizontal view. Here's an example of some buildings in New York City.

Ooh, cheers Hill...

Do you know how it manages it? I'm fairly sure that you couldn't do that wil KML as the <LookAt> points to a spot on the Earth

To be honest I've only made a few short movies myself many months ago. But it seems to me that the Movie Maker is a screen capture process and does not need to use placemarks. Plan the route, practice till you like it, then start the "camera" rolling. With the SpaceNavigator you have lots of control and should be able to make a pretty good tour. You can even do this:

(Try that with a mouse)
