Hi...hoping for some troubleshooting help.
I have a Plus subscription, and had been running the Beta versions of 4 with great results. Just downloaded upgrade to release version of 4, and now GE quits with the "Encountered a problem..." message just after the "initializing" phase, or else it just quits without any message.
I have dump files it creates (attached file)...anyone who can read those?
Also, if I uninstall GE 4 and re-install 3, that version will run fine. Unfortunately, I don't have the last beta installer around.
I have followed all the troubleshooting threads without results. Tried OpenGL and DirectX modes, reinstalling after deleting all files, registry entries, etc.
Any help much appreciated!

I am hitting the same problem. But, I just started using this. I don't have version 3. So, after 2 weeks, still no help on this?

G'Day LEK2,
Have you come across this thread that contains links to problems and fixes regarding the Athlon Duel Core, it may help. There is also a link there for the Athlon X 2 Optimizer.

Hope it helps.
Cheers.
Edit Note: couple other things to try if you already haven't done so,,,
delete your memory and disc cache in GE options,
also try moving your " My Places " folder to your hard drive to isolate it from opening when you start GE, that will let you know if there is a problem there.

Thanks for the links, no_stranger.
Unfortunately, none of the tips have yielded any change in behavior. After uninstalling, I've completely removed any files related to GE, then done a clean install without success.
I am running the X2 Optimizer, and I've tried setting a processor affinity for each of the cores with no improvement.
I've manually deleted the cache...can't use the menu option as it doesn't get past the splash screen when starting up.
I've trashed My Places as well.
Also, FWIW, I tried emailing support, with no response. I understood Plus subscribers were supposed to be entitled to email support. Sigh.
I'm a software developer myself, so it is pretty frustrating that GE is writing a crash dump file, and I can't find anyone who knows how to read it.
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Lou, that's not so good news, The good news is that within 10 minutes or so, the support forums are going live to Google Groups, and Google Earths Support team are going to be monitoring them,, so that means a direct and faster path to them will be available. Someone there will be able to decifer the crash dump files and hopefully come up with some ideas of what is causing your problem,,, and hopefully a fix. Links to the new support groups are to be placed in each of the existing support forums here. Hope to see you on the other side !
