I have stumbled though trying to use my Magellan eXplorist 210 with GE+ v 4.0.2093(beta).
This GPS connects using USB, and when connected it looks like a USB mass storage device. I can easily navigate to the "Points-of-Interest" (Waypoints), Routes and Track logs and see the files the eXplorist updates.
When I use GE Tools/GPS, and click the OK window, I am presented with an "Open" dialog box. The only files it will let me select are .log files (the type used for Track Logs).
I think the GPS import needs to work with .upt files (for Waypoints/Points-of-Interest) and .rte files for Routes. Copying the files and renaming them with .log doesn't seem to work.
So -- how do I report to Google that the documentation for GPS/Magellen needs to explain the "open" dialog box and what the user is expected to do. And that the .upt and .rte files aren't available in that open dialog, so I can't import Waypoints and Routes?
If anyone else has experience bringing in Magellan waypoints, please share your experiences.

[ I'm kind of typing aloud here so I can use this as the basis of a problem report. ]
I just fired up the Mac beta on an Explorist and I agree this probably doesn't work the way we want it to work. It appears to be setting an inappropriate file mask on the 'file open' dialogue.
Actually, for Explorist (and Meridian SD, but not the serial models) Tracks, Waypoints, and Routes are mutually exclusive and should therefore be a radio button array, not a set of three checkboxes. If tracks, set the file mask to ".log" and tell GPSBabel -t. If waypoints, set ".upt" and use the default of -w. If routes, set ".rte" and use -r.
Serial Magellans can be any combination of tracks, routes, and waypoints. The file-based units (Explorist/Meridian SD files on a card reader or local filestore or a directly connected Explorist) can do only one mode at a time and has the extension rule.

Thanks Robert. You've captured what needs to happen accurately.
Also, don't forget to update the help page with the file/open behavior for Magellan explorist and SD units.
If I can help test/verify anything, please feel free to contact me.

I did some extensive research with Google Earth and Macs and the Magellan eXplorist 500. You can see what I do here: Mac-using geocacher You need to convert .loc into either .gpx or .upt, and .kml. Doing so will allow you to upload to your handset AND open the cache in Google Earth. I've created a workflow that will do it for you.

Just as closure on the original request, Explorist is supported directly by Earth4 now and (unlike some of the betas where one would work but the other was broken) it works right on both Mac and Windows.

I have an Explorist 210 and have not been able to download waypoints after having follwed the suggestions in the posts that relate to the 500 series of GPS using Advanced GPSBabel.
HOWEVER I have been able to download waypoints in a round about fashion using QuickGPSBabel.
Wth the GPS plugged in and running in file transfer mode it will appear in Finder as "Untitled" mass storage device.
* Download a file from Geocaching.com to the Desktop and it will show with a .loc extension. * Choose QuickGPSBabel * Under Operating Mode choose Waypoints * Under Input Options choose "Use file "the select your .loc file from the Desktop ".Input file" choose "Geocaching.com.loc " from the list * Under Output Options choose" Use file" choose "Magellan SD files(as for Explorist)" and store it back to the Desktop. It will now appear with the name you have assigned with a .upt extension. * Drop the .upt file from your desktop to "untitled" mass storage device in Finder * Click on the "Untitled" and drop it on MyPOI s and your file will be there. *You will find that the file has been transferred to your GPS.
I have had no luck trying to transfer directly to the GPS. If anyone knows How please let me know.

The 210 and the 500 are identical in this regard.
The direction of data movement in your request is conflicting. Are you trying to pull data FROM the GPS TO Earth (which Plus, Pro, and beyond do support) or are you trying to move it from Earth to the GPS (which is not supported by Google Earth)?
