Hi
I am having a problem and would like to discuss it with you guys in order to find out a solution. When I start my google (beta 4) application, all startup messages go fine but I get only a starry night, without the globe. If I type a location in "Fly to" box, the unseen globe moves and I guess when it gets closer, it turns grey. Anyone with any clue?

G'Day Maxal, welcome to the GEC.
Could be a graphics card or driver issue. CLICK HERE to get the rundown on how to check it out. Updating the drivers is the most common fix.

To me, it looks like a problem of being behind a firewall. But I was running GE successfully earlier. My Internet explorer is not set to work offline. But if I turn proxy off, I won't be able to connect to the web. Than how GE is going to work?

OK, there's a new clue, proxy server. CLICK HERE and check this out. The other thing to do is to download the latest version upgrade 4.0.1658 from HERE , there are lots of improvements and fixes.

Tried everything to no avail. Is there any other way out?

Kamal, I too am having this problem. I will be working on it over the weekend and will share my results. I have a Intel iMac 1.83 Ghz. I tried running Version 3 of GE as well as the version beta and the problem is just as you described. It had been working about a month ago, but I had not tried it in a while. I suspect Quicktime.

Hi All-
I had the same situation after installing GE 4.0.1694 (beta).
Tried clearing caches and increased memory...still no globe!
Finally, what worked for me was: Preferences>(in the)View tab>Graphics Mode> use safe mode .
That got the globe back and I was able to switch back to High Color (16 Bit) or True Color (32 Bit) and have had no problems since. Hope this helps ya!
Cheers!

I'm having the same issue... it occurred when I uninstalled version 3 to upgrade to version 4. I followed all of the advice in this thread but so far, the globe is NOT visible.
Since version 3 was working okay, I've never initially had a graphics card issue. Furthermore, when I tried to go back to version 3 (from version 4 not displaying the globe), the globe still isn't visible.
I've also checked for network issues. No errors reported from here:

Here's some of my system's specs:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 Processor(s): 2 Processor(s) Installed. Add me to the list: I can't see the earth when I start GE and if I go to a location the screen turns green in v3 and gray in v4. I have turned all layers off, updated to the latest version of DirectX and the latest display drivers. The server test has reported all successful.
This all started with an update from v3 to v4 and rolling back to v3 has not fixed the problem.
