In 2007 march 22. an article appeared in the Hungarian press about the Hungarian nationalism.
You may read it in Hungarian: HERE
The article states that the national feeling is against globalization and worth to throw it into the dustbin of history.
As I see it all nations have to keep their national identity. Obviusly each nation has an own profession and the best in the world in certain things. This is the power of Europe. Its diversity. Just think it over, an example: no other nation can write poems or sing or just speak, think in Hungarian. We are the best in the world doing this. We are living in the 21st century now. To presume that national feelings create only hatered is just old fashioned 20th century way of thinking. Every European nation is shrinking in population. To presume arguments within the nations in the heart of Europe is like if the passengers of the shrinking Titanic would arguing and kicking each other about what to do in New York once they get there. This analogy is from Konrád Salamon Hungarian historian.
Let me answer to the above mentioned article with this post. I collected some Turul monuments of the Hungarians. Turul is the mythological bird of the origin myth of the Magyars (Hungarian people), and a symbol of Hungarian national feelings.
The Turul is probably a large falcon, the origin of the word is Turkish (togrul or turgul means peregrine falcon). In Hungarian the word sólyom means falcon, and there are three ancient words describing different kinds of falcons: kerecsen (saker), zongor (lives in the male name Zsombor) and turul.
In the legends Turul is mentioned at least twice to shape the fate of the Hungarians: the first time Emese , mother of Álmos had a dream where a Turul appeared, impregnated her and told her that her child was going to be the father of a great nation. The second time, the leader of the Hungarian tribes had a dream where eagles attacked their horses and a Turul came and saved them, to symbolise that they have to move, and when they did, the Turul helped them to show the way and led them finally to the land that became Hungary.
There were three huge Turul statues in Greater Hungary (before the country had its borderes reconfigured by the treaty of Trianon): one still visible on the mountain next to Tatabánya, Coordinates: 47°35'N 18°24'E, Hungary. It is said to be the largest bird statue in Europe; the wingspan of the Turul is almost 15 meters.
There are Turul statues (not included in this post yet) also in:
Celldömölk, Györ, Ivándárda, Karcag, Bácskossuthfalva, Monostorapáti, Paptamási, Sajószentpéter, Tóthfalu.
If you have pictures about these locations or know the exact location please let me know or post it here!
The largest bird forming statue in Europe. The Turul. Its wingspan is 15 meters.
Edit: Thanks for syzygy for the new locations and pictures he collected I added them to the collection also thanks for the idea of this new design.

You are right Gábor, the folks living in the Carpathian basin should put shoulder to shoulder for better representation of their common interests, for a sustainable economy and for a healthy environment. The borders are dissolved at last. Lets break the walls too!
