Take a look at this in North Korea. It looks like a runway only that a hill is sitting right on top of it! Am I right or wrong? It appears there is a causeway from nearby airport approx 2.71 miles NW of possible airfield. Exaggerate your elevation to see pronounce hill sitting on what I think is an airfield. Do you think the North Koreans are trying to protect their aircraft or could this be a fallback airfield after the main airfield is destroyed? I wish that whoever is taking the overhead image shots could provide updated/higher res imagery when acquired.
Doesn't really look like a runway, no taxiways, no ramp, no support buildings. Also, the center part isn't really a hill either, the elevation gradient across that "thing" is about 2 m, measured on a SRTM derived 500m DEM, which isn't all that accurate, but still, not a "hill" that one could tunnel through.
Perhaps it's a really old runway, and the material in the center of it was deposited during flooding of the area.
The centre part is certainly a hill, rising 109m above the surrounding land. That's according to the GE elevation readings.
I found something very similar to the north east near Wonsan. Someone has marked it as Kang Da Ri Airfield which is incorrect. The airfield is actually a highway strip to the west of this location.
